Hotel Guest Reviews of the Chancellor Hotel On Union Square

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. The room was lovely, clean; the bed--comfortable; bright, white linens. The staff was helpful, friendly. There were little extras: free crisp apples and coffee, a soaking tub with a rubber ducky, an umbrella, a jar of free candy! A caring place.
The lobby is rather shabby looking, and the rugs in the hallways were grimy. But the room and the experience more than made up for it.

Great location. It's not a big swanky or new hotel, with suites of flashy modern rooms. It's an older hotel, a moderate price for downtown San Francisco, a small bar, restaurants and shopping close by, and a deep soaking tub with a rubber ducky! In all of the hotels I have been in all over the world, not one has been thoughtful enough to hang an umbrella in the closet--it's a gem of a place! ...read more

I didn't realize the room was small and the bathroom even smaller! The closet was bigger than the bathroom

Convenient location.
No air conditioner and bed was creased and lumpy.

Nice clean room, great location, and very helpful and courteous staff

I love this hotel. It's truly a gem in the heart of San Francisco. The hotel was built in 1914 and has been with the same family ever since. The building has been there for close to a hundred years, so don't compare it with gleaming newly designed luxury hotels. I would really commend them for making the best out it - it's as clean, comfortable, and well-maintained as can be. And has a lot of character. For the their star rating and rates, they provide a lot more niceties than many higher priced 4 & 5 star hotels such as the Westin St. Francis next door which I had stayed in before. Free wifi. Coffee, tea, cookies, and papers available in the lobby all day. I had a room on the 3rd floor facing the street with some view of Union Square, and was initially concerned about the noise. Surprisingly, it wasn't noisy at all. The building and windows must have good sound insulation. The room is tastefully furnished and also come with a fridge. There's a old style deep soaking tub. However, the tub do not have overflow drain, so be careful when filling it up. The toiletries are of good quality and include stuffs such as bath salts that other hotels don't normally include. The restaurant downstairs serve quality food, good and prompt services at a very reasonable price. The Hotel staff were great. Great location - right next to Union Square. Overall, I can't ask for more. I will definitely stay here whenever I visit San Francisco, and won't hesitate to recommend it to friends and relatives. ...read more

The hotel is old. It could stand for a decent renovation. However, having said that, it's also apparent that management has nonetheless spent a fair amount on room upkeep. Furniture and even bathroom furnishings were more than acceptable.
Oh, nothing too dramatic. A coffee maker in the room might have been nice.

A great location, staff is pleasant and helpful, rooms are very clean if not a little beat-up, and the restaurant was perfectly fine (clean, good food, at a fair price). I'd stay here again if I couldn't get a better deal at a more upscale property.

Location Location Location. It was a lot of fun being able to go out of the hotel and get right on the trolly car.
We were given incorrect information twice when asking for information at the front desk. The cost for parking was outrageous. 30.00 per night!

The room was small and I would not want to stay there if it was summer as I did not see any AC in the room. It was nice out so we had the windows open. It was very clean and it was clear that they worked hard to keep it high class. We requested to have two different items brought to our room both were done so quickly.

Very nice location across the street from Union Square. Quiet rooms are available without a view, but away from Powell street.
There is no A/C, this is clearly stated on the hotel website, but missing from the Priceline description. Overall, I'm not sure there are many times you need air conditioning in San Francisco, but if you did, it is not an option here.

Amazing location and friendly staff. Cookies and water in the lobby!
Walls are thin, but quiet enough at night, older fixtures in bathroom but still excellent for price.

The best location ever! The free apples at the lobby, the complimentary cookies, coffe and wi-fi! All included! Definitely much more than I expected. The bed was not a king size, but the rest was superb

The front desk staff, especially Rory, was incredibly helpful and welcoming. Fantastic experience!
The only thing was that we needed more outlets to charge all our devices, but we made it work. :)
