Charing Cross - A Guoman Hotel

We had read mixed things about the hotel so were prepared for the worst, but experienced none of the negative things we'd read about. I'm always nervous about booking through a site that is not directly through the hotel, but we had absolutely no problems. We were celebrating an anniversary so asked beforehand about the possibility of being upgraded, and it worked out and we had a lovely deluxe king on the sixth floor. There was some noise from the street, but it's also a very public and crowded location, but never had any issues getting rest. The bed was comfortable, the view spectacular, we had no issues with toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.) that we had read about elsewhere. My room was extremely noisy - got interrupted all night from street noise.

This hotel has a very nice section (lobby/restaurant area) but has a very old, dilapidated wing where they put guests. The wing has stairs everywhere so if you have luggage, this is a real problem. The bathroom in our room was dirty, toilet did not flush properly, the room was small, bedding was dirty, some of the lights in the room did not work, and the bed was extremely firm and uncomfortable. Centrally located but room is too small. The room was next to lobby on 4th floor and whenever some one walked the floor made noise in the room. The hotel staff said that they had no room to change.

Charing Cross has very attractive public areas, and comfortable, quiet rooms. Hot water was unreliable, and 2 out of 5 days we had luke warm to cool showers. Housekeeper was asked daily for extra towels, soap, etc. Toilet paper roll was left completely empty one day, there was a lack of attention to detail one would expect at a 4 star hotel. Great staff, great location, clean, and no pool on site.

A lovely old hotel with attractive architecture. The room was larger than most hotels in this area and fully equipped with coffee maker, iron and ironing board and mini bar. The hotel staff was friendly, courteous and helpful.
