Hotel Guest Reviews of the Chicago's Essex Inn

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Fantastic location and very helpful staff.

Excellent location as it is right across the street from Grant Park and less than a mile from the Musuem campus. The hotel staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They offer complimentary shuttles to the museums and to Navy Pier, plus they held our bags for us even after we had checked out! A very good experience in the heart of downtown Chicago.

Very nice remodel to the room. Clean with a very nice design.
Heat and a/c are still "old school" and had to keep the window wide open at night to keep the room cool. Definitely a drawback to this hotel.

Conveniently located on michigan avenue, adjacent to grant park. You are, however, still in the south part of the loop which means you're at just about the end of everything (but very close to the museums)
I thought the rooms were somewhat small - I guess we usually have 2 beds in a room so maybe that gets you more space, but I felt the rooms were a tad on the small side. The bathroom sink was also the smallest basin I have ever seen...laughable really

If you can get this hotel at a discount, I think it's worthwhile for a short stay. I would not recommend this for people staying longer than 2 nights or people who spend a good amount of time in their room. For downtown Chicago which tends to be pricey due to the occupancy levels, I think it's a good economical option without having to go to a 2-star hotel

Great staff, nice and quiet rooms
Shower flow was horrible, rooms did not get very cold with a/c

Easy access to cabs, vending prices absurdly high, but everything in Chicago is overpriced. Not bad for the value

The location is what I liked most.
The gym and pool closed early (10pm)for a Saturday.

Overall, a very good experience staying here. The location with all of the activity was good. access from the interstate was good.

Everything was clean and the room was comfortable
I wasn't a fan of the pillows, but everyone's taste is different.

This is an old hotel that they've tried to update to today's standards. It was a great place to stay for a few days, and it was in a great spot for what we had planned!

Room was nicely appointed. Location was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Very friendly staff. Convenient location to downtown activities. Only negative was that the price of the valet parking was a bit steep. Parking garage is nearby so better to park yourself and walk. Too.was very clean and nicely appointed with a nice view.

great staff, very nice.
the ballet parking was way too expensive. 41 dollars...

make sure you park your car at public parking, which is only a block away from the place. it's half price of what this hotel offers.
