Hotel Guest Reviews of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Helpful staff, Excellent location
Rooms were tiny tiny tiny. AC did not work very well but hotel provided me 20% discount. The hotel is old so not much could be done to decrease temp below 21. Staff said that rooms never get below 20. Would be hard in the summer. They need hot tub.

Great location....can't beat it. In between Parliament and Byward Market on the Rideau Canal. Staff were excellent. Rooms were tiny tiny tiny. AC did not work very well but hotel provided me 20% discount. The hotel is old so not much could be done to decrease temp below 21. Staff said that rooms never get below 20. Would be hard in the summer. Surprised that for the star rating and price they did not have a hot tub and/or sauna. ...read more

It is historic. Rooms small althought the beds extrememly comfortable.
The bathroom was very small and dated. If I wanted to stay another nigh I had to book through Priceline. Really?

Very nice historic old hotel in great location.

The Chateau Laurier is a beautiful hotel that is clea, staff very helpful and the location could not be better for our purposes. We were in Ottawa for a conference as well as sight seeing/shopping and everything was at our doorstep. The restaurant in th
Not at all.

As I mentioned, the hotel is in the heart of Ottawa, close to everything. The bridge to Quebec is only about 5 minutes away if one was planning a trip up to Gaineau. A great bonus is one can walk to just about everything you may need.

Fabulous old hotel in tremendous location.
My room was next to the ice room (loud) and had a very restricted view.

Great hotel, but my room was clearly not one of their best.

Clean, comfortable bed, friendly staff, bright, nice view & good value for the money spent.
Accessing the front entrance is quite scary. If you are from a small town forget it! Take a taxi.

As indicated above, it was an excellent choice. Parking is a bit too stiff.

Beautiful architecture and opulence of a bygone era
Our room was a little on the small side.

The convenience of being downtown.

When you stay at the Fairmont Hotels they are relatively expensive even on but they are always reliable and central and offer really good service. The Chatau Laurier is right beside the Parliament buildings and the market and all the other sights in Ottawa. If you are a city person who is there for that experience it cannot be beaten.

Location, history of the venue.
Hotel pricing was not competitive with its own third party agents, staff was tightly restricted by hotel policies which were ridiculous in context.

This hotel has a rich pedigree that was not lived up to on this occasion of my stay. The drain in my bath was faulty and the only lengthy shower I took the drain backed up and when I realized what has happening I was standing in 6 inches of backwash and effluence from the drain system. I raised this nicely with the hotel supervisor indicating that this was just unacceptable.

Old world charm without old furniture or dust.
No wifi in the room and no spa facilities. We love spa!

Great location, great staff, great room, great linens and towels, great mini bar, nice TV, great bar with super friendly staff. I expected the rooms to be smaller so they exceeded my expectations. It is obvious that the hotel takes pride in maintaining their high standards all around. The energy and ambiance of the hotel was very positive and inviting.

Everything. My room was spacious yet cosy. The staff were extraordinary. I loved reading about the history of the building also.

Sometimes you hear glowing words about a hotel experience and they're not true once you arrive. This is not so for the Chateau Laurier. From the moment I arrived - 4 hours early for check-in - the staff were welcoming, warm, and exceedingly helpful. They looked after my luggage. I ate a splendid breakfast in the restaurant (and was treated like a queen). I went shopping and when my room was ready, they called me to let me know. The bed was luxury itself with feather pillows and duvet. The reading chairs were cosy and not soggy (as in no support), and the room was well-lit for reading, work on computer, and snoozing. Room service was impeccable (again I was a queen) and the food was hot and tasty. Staff were always pleasant and yes, even friendly! I would stay here again in a heart-beat. I took an hour and walked around the other rooms on the main floor just to get a sense of the history of the place (it was built in 1912) and was pleased that photos were displayed with short captions to get an idea of what the times were like. I gained an added sense of Canadian history just by walking around. ...read more
