Hampton Inn South Hill

Overall I enjoyed this hotel. I will stay at this hotel again in the near future.

The hotel is average but for the rural area it is in it wasn't bad. Seating in the breakfast area is limited even for the small number of guests at the hotel. There was no shampoo or body soap in the room. An oversight by housekeeping but kind of a biggie because the last thing you want to do is go to the front desk looking for that stuff when you need a shower. The staff, and especially, the night desk clerk, tried to find a TV remote that worked, but was unsuccessful. When I was unable to get a walk-up call, due to my room telephones not working, the staff guy offered to call my cell phone the next morning, and he did so. This hotel was hard to find. It's behind the Holiday Inn Express, with only a tiny road sign indicating that it exists. If this wasn't my hometown, I'd have given up finding it. The first room smelled of cigarette smoke, the second room had water stains on the ceiling, paint problems above the TV, poor TV picture quality, and the WiFi didn't work. The haphazardly installed CAT 5 Ethernet cable did work, but the tip was damaged. It looked as though the lowest bidder was selected to perform the installation. The breakfast was very pathetic, should be considered a continental breakfast in my opinion. Everything in my room including the furniture and the floor was covered in a tacky sticky film from cleaner I presume, the bathroom definitely fails, there was brown rusty water coming out of the shower. Overall it was a short stay. I had a wedding to attend so I asked for a late checkout but the maximum amount of people checking out late had already been reached. Don't understand why I could not just have one extra hour. They were not very understanding. The wedding wasn't until 1:30 and I had to be out by 11 am. Wandering South Hill in wedding gear was not fun.

Good location in South Hill. Nice to stay at if traveling with kids because of the nice outdoor pool. Excellent complementary breakfast.
