Hostal Luz

I was a little hesitant at first about the Hostal aspect but was very pleasantly surprised. The location was probably the Best aspect along with the cleanlinest and bright decor. We had alittle language barrier with the front desk but it all worked out. It was located on the third floor, which was not an issue with us but could be for others. We had a room for three people with our own bathroom, so the cost of the room divided between everyone was very reasonable. Senora Margarita was very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and nice. They do not speak English, but somehow everyone seemed to get the info they needed. Besides, there are three good computers for the public use, I could communicate with my friends by Skype with no problem and I was looking for the information about museums and other tips online in the evenings. ...read more

Hostal Luz is located on the 3rd (actually 4th) floor of a nondescript building in Madrid. There is a small elevator.The location is fantastic, very near the Opera, not far from the Palacio Real and a mile from the Prado museum.All common areas, rooms and bathrooms were incredibly clean. The women who run this place clean very thoroughly every day.The manager, named Margarita, is very helpful.One catch... they don't speak a word if English. Well, OK, maybe 3 or 4 words of English, but literally none more. If you don't speak some Spanish, you'll have a wonderful adventure here.The rooms are a little small, but very functional. We reserved 2 rooms on Priceline for our family of 5. Each had a private bathroom with stand-up shower. They have Matrimonio rooms (a double or queen bed for couples), 2 person rooms (2 twin beds) and 3 person rooms (3 twin beds, which were a little cramped, but functional).They have an arrangement with a restaurant nearby for a nice, basic european breakfast (coffee, tea or warm chocolate milk and a pastry or sandwich). If Margerita stamps "especial" on your ticket, you get freshly squeezed orange juice, too.Hostal Luz is a nice, clean, friendly, inexpensive hostal. The location is great. The beds are comfortable, albeit a little hard (as most Spanish beds are).Plenty of tourist activities and restaurants nearby.We would return. ...read more
