A predominant feature of The Hapuna Beach Prince site is the presence of a series of underground springs. In ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall these springs would bubble to the surface creating natural artesian fountains. The resultant streams would provide a source of respite and renewal for travelers along the otherwise dry and barren Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named /Hapuna/ or /Spring of Life/ in the Hawaiian language. There is so much to see and experience at the Hapuna Beach Hotel. You can be busy from morning to night, or if you choose you can relax and soak in the rays on the long white sand beach. The Hapuna Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course nestled in the dramatic natural contours of the land from the shoreline to about 700 feet above sea level. One of the "best beaches on the island", combined with access to an "excellent" Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay–designed golf course, makes this "quiet" Kohala Coast lodging a sometimes "overlooked gem"; some of the otherwise "ordinary" rooms have "fantastic" ocean views, but a few faultfinders feel it "fails in the dining department"; N.B. its sister resort, the Mauan Kea, is closed for renovations.

Hotel was large and spacious, as were the rooms.

Hotel was a bit dated and there is a much needed face lift.

The first thing about this hotel is that you know 5-10 years ago, this was a hotel in the midst of its prime. However, since then, the hotel is a bit tired and feels dated. The problem we had was that when we tried to check in on a Saturday night, no one was to be found at 11pm. We had baggage problems and got into the area late. We had to cough our way to service as there was no one at the front desk either. It was like walking into a scene in the movie the Shining since it was completely deserted. We liked the fact that people were sparse the next day as we had the pool and jacuzzi pretty much to ourselves, but we did not get a happening vibe from the hotel or staff at all. ...read more

Great ocean view from balcony, relatively private and quiet, beautiful open lobby facing the beach.

Not much else close by, but we ended up not minding - the ocean view and relatively uncrowded beach made it worthwhile.

Gorgeous grounds, fabulous pool, nice beach, good walking and good for golfers.

Rooms needed maintenance - wallpaper loose in spots, vanity wood crumbling
at bottom outside edges.

Room rates several times higher if you would book direct. Eating options a bit limited, but town north offered a few options. Waimea not too far either and had many restaurants. Hotel only had one restaurant open at a time and very expensive. ...read more
