The Congress Plaza Hotel, a historic Chicago hotel on Michigan Avenue, was originally designed and built to accommodate visitors to the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. Over the years, this 14-story property has catered to our nation's Presidents, foreign dignitaries, opera performers, stage and movie celebrities, business travelers, and a multitude of conventions. Located on a picturesque setting on Michigan Avenue, adjacent to Grant Park, this hotel is ideal for visitors wanting a taste of Chicago.

Many guests have found the features of this Chicago hotel to be beneficial. While the layout of this property lends itself to groups arriving for a big game, the location is ideal for frequenting the Museum Campus. Business travelers will enjoy the wireless internet connection in the lobby, and shoppers will love the proximity to the stores on State Street and Michigan Avenue. Families are excited to view Buckingham Fountain, with the Lake in the background. Architecture enthusiasts will gaze in awe at the mosaic tiles on the ceiling of our Lobby. History buffs can peruse the spots where famous Presidents addressed their legions of supporters.

For dining and entertainment, Congress Plaza Hotel features two restaurants and a lounge. The Gazebo Restaurant serves American favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual environment. Rafael's offers the same cuisine in a more intimate atmosphere. Tavern Tap Lounge is a great place to greet old friends and watch your favorite team on the big screen. We have room service available for the travelers that prefer to watch the big game in their guestroom. Other amenities include a gift shop, barbershop, game room, and cash machine on property.

Step outside our front door, and you will notice that we are situated between downtown college campuses, with The Loop, Auditorium Theater, Art Institute, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium and Soldier Field all close by. McCormick Place, Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile, and River North, are within blocks. The Museum of Science and Industry, U.S. Cellular Field, Wrigley Field, and United Center are a short drive away. Whether you are visiting Chicago for the fabulous shopping, legendary restaurants and nightlife, or world-renowned cultural venues, the Congress Plaza Hotel is the ideal vantage point to start your tour of the Windy City.

Very clean, doormen always willing to please.
The picket line in front of the hotel has been there for years, so I just ignore them.

The hotel is old and the rooms are sparse; but the attitude of the personnel, cleanliness, and location make this a very good value.

Location was excellent! Close to theater, museum, and park.
The bed was incredibly hard and so were the pillows. Woke up with a back ache.

The lobby was very nice. The hotel is a little older but it adds to the charm. Room was very clean.

History.
Unfriendly security. Even harassed.

The hotel is rich in history which is best researched on your own as the staff has little knowledge. The staff was certainly friendly, and it was like walking back in time when we checked in.

Clean, good service and good restaurants.
The handle for the bathtub broke.

The hotel is attractive and near enough to the conference center to walk.

Great view, great room, and great concierge.
Breakfast experience was not fabulous.

Incredible value for the price! Excellent place. If the price stays right, we'll definitely return.

This was our second stay and I enjoy the age of this hotel but with updated amenities & cleanliness. The view, if lakeside, is beautiful!
Everything was enjoyable except the staff in the breakfast restaurant. We were not offered any refills or checked on until we were finished.

I would stay at this hotel every time. The price and atmosphere are very enjoyable!

The price.
I did like anything about the hotel.

I was very unhappy with my stay and will never go or tell anyone about it. The hotel had no hot water on the fifth floor. Who knows if there would have been any water on the 13th floor where my first room was. This is just the first downing. ...read more

Good bar area.
Workers on strike.

Other than the striking workers, the hotel was fine.
