With "dramatic views" of the Rhode Island State House, this "excellent hotel" is "beautifully appointed" and within walking distance to Downtown Providence; guests praise "incredible service", such as a complimentary "bottle of wine and birthday cake", and they feel "pampered" in "newly appointed, comfortable" rooms; built in 1929 as a Masonic temple, the "historic" building lacks a pool, but reviewers still find it "just amazing", with a "surprisingly good" restaurant and lounge.

A
gorgeous hotel.

The staff was very professional and friendly. They asked who our trip was, we told them we traveled 6 hours by car to attend my fathers funeral. After the wake, we returned to our room to find a sympathy card signed by the staff, a bottle of wine, glasses and a fruit and cheese spread. We were very touched. The hotel lobby and sitting areas are gorgeous and finely appointed. We will be going back there again. ...read more

Excellent response to special requests.
Front desk/computer credit card processing needs serious attention.

This is an excellent, comfortable and elegant hotel within a convenient walk to shopping, the capital, Amtrak and Brown U. The staff is attentive to details and responds promptly. Be forewarned, the credit/debit card processing system needs attention. Do not expect to get incidental funds returned in a quick manner. ...read more

Beautifully appointed rooms, Aveda products.
Inconvenient for public transportation, no courtesy shuttle available to/from airport, train or downtown.

The hotel room are beautiful with great Aveda products. There is not courtesy transportation to/from the hotel to airport, train or downtown. Travelers are dependent upon costly cabs or a short, steep hill to a mall where public transport is available. ...read more

Beautiful, classy, great location.
Housekeeping banging on my door at 8 in the morning.

This hotel was originally planned as a Masonic Temple and lay dormant until it was rebuilt as the Renaissance. This hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. Its location is perfect for exploring Providence. I wish I could have stayed longer. ...read more

It was very close to the mall, able to get holiday shopping done without having to drive or take a cab over.
Parking was an additional charge.

Clean, attractive, easy to access off the highway. Easy walk to providence place mall for holiday shopping without having to deal with the parking garage! Dinner and wine at restaurant on site was easy after a long day of traveling. ...read more

Very nice accommodations.
Pay for parking and Internet daily.

Great hotel in a good location close to Providence Place Mall. But they get you with the small things that you don't expect. $25 per day for parking. $10.95 per day for Internet access.
