Hotel Guest Reviews of the The Hotel At Vernon Downs

Upon arrival around 3:30(check in started at 3), there was a line of guests, several employees at the desk and a supervisor muddling things up as he attempted to count a cash drawer. Why he would do this at their busy check in time is beyond me. Check in was confusing-they didn't seem to know exactly how to deal with my Priceline reservation. I also received a bill under my door the next day. That was also confusing to staff as I tried to fix that. The room was so so. Bed was horribly uncomfortable. The one good thing about this hotel was the convenience to what we were doing. ...read more

My husband and I were very happy with this hotel. It was a very nice room, the bed was very comfortable. The staff that we encountered was very nice and helpful. The price was very reasonable and the location was great for what we had planned. We would definitely stay there again. The only thing that we would change is the check-in time, 3:00 pm is a little later than we like. Over all a very positive experience! ...read more

The hotel itself was fine the kids had an indoor pool to swim in. The rooms were fine I only sleep there so I don't need anything fancy. But the food at the restaurant was horrible, we waited over an hour and a half for our food, and it was gross and my pasta was burned. The waiter never kept his order pad with him, so a lot of running back and forth to get it. Clearly they need to hire more staff because the waiter had to tell us that he was the waiter, the cook, and bartender until 6 pm that night. And we had a peek at the breakfast buffet, not worth 7.99 so we went to a better restaurant somewhere else. I do not recommend this to restaurant to any one. The buffets didn't look any better. ...read more

The atmosphere is very friendly, they welcome you like old friends, it is a nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Good stopping point between Utica and Syracuse, NY.

I think it was rated 3 stars and it should be more. It was close to Turning Stone Casino 5 miles away were we went to a concert and shopping. You could swim use hot tub, eat, gamble, drink, horse races were off season but they were training and simulcast was on. You can watch movies put beer in fridge and drink in room all while they was a snow storm going on and we don't have to leave the building. A lot more reasonable than staying at other casino. And the complimentary breakfast was excellent not like in Canada. ...read more

This hotel was by far not accommodating. The casino in the hotel was shut down for legal purposes I guess, and due to this inconvenience for us they would not budge on the room price. However, I did hear the hotel desk clerk quoting lower prices to people on the phone due to this inconvenience. The lobby was dark and uninviting as well. ...read more
