The highlights of this "modest" hotel may be the "awesome views of the river and Downtown" and the "convenient" location "within walking distance" of shopping and many attractions; though fans toss points to a staff that's "quick to provide anything you need" and a lobby with "relaxed seating areas", "lots of action" and numerous dining options, including a Shula's, fussy foes are "disappointed" by the "slightly aging" baths in the "basic" rooms and can't help noting the "dirty room service dishes" sitting "up and down the hallway."

The location was ideal for our activities in Chicago.
Employee knocking on our door asking us when we were leaving at 9 am.

Location was close to Navy Pier which was convenient. The rooms were average and the beds were average. The pool was closed because someone cut their foot in the pool, so we were unable to use the pool. There was one issue that bothered me about this hotel, at 9:00 a.m. a hotel employee (not cleaning staff) was knocking on our door asking us when we were leaving our room on the day of our checkout. Checkout wasn't until 11:00 a.m. and I felt that was quite rude, and I felt as though we were being rushed to leave the room. ...read more

An elegant experience, lovely decor, very comfortable bed, super easy check-in and check-out.
Added on fees for nearly every necessity (parking, internet access, etc.) doubled our costs.

Overall, this was a lovely hotel experience: sumptuous decor and lots of staff attending to visitors needs. The location is fine for access to downtown Chicago, but the immediate surrounding blocks are rather barren, requiring at least a short walk to get to anything of interest. The hotel tacks on excessive fees for things like parking ($49/24-hour period valet; $38/24-hour period self-park) and internet access (approximately $12/24-hour period) which we needed during our stay, and which effectively doubled the cost for our trip. These fees are not announced up front. Most hotel staff was instantly helpful, though not always quite friendly - more stiff and formal. ...read more

Good location, great accommodations.
Pay extra or health club or pool use.

Nice location (easy access from Lake Shore Drive or Michigan Avenue), luxury style hotel accommodations at a very reasonable price. At least 4 on premise restaurant options. Disappointed that exercise room and pool were extra $12 charge for one-time use. ...read more

The location.
Nothing.

The accommodations were excellent, the location was great, and the staff was helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend a stay here if you're visiting Chicago.

Decent location to shopping area.
Squeaking noise in walls, didn't sleep at all the first night, peeling wallpaper, musty.

The rooms are horribly out-dated and the service was unaccommodating. In short, the hotel was equivalent to what I would expect from a motel, not a hotel. The only bright side was that it is reasonable close to the shopping on Michigan Avenue. ...read more

Great location, great bar/restaurant area. Nice fitness equipment.
The bedroom and restroom were really dark even with every light on.

The hotel is in a great location in Chicago. It is a very nice hotel.
