"Walt Disney would approve" of this "large, large, large" Kohala Coast "kid paradise" where you can "take a tram or boat to your room" or "hoof it" to burn calories (wags dub it the "Walk-a-lot-a"); "beautiful grounds with a Zen theme", waterslides that slosh into "a gazillion pools", a "top-notch spa" and a "cool" "dolphin encounter" program give it "lots of wow factor", so even if naysaysers deem the rooms "nothing special" and gripe there's "not much of a beach", fans still liken it to the "greatest show on earth"; N.B. suites are undergoing renovation.

The amount of activities that were offered.
Restaurant buffets left a little to be desired.

Okay, but hotel staff was not very informative upon check-in, and the valet parking was not clear. We weren't informed of any specials, such as using our local I.D. to receive discounts on services. We found this out by accident from another local. Not too good! ...read more

A beautiful resort with great views, friendly staff and very comfortable surroundings.
The room air conditioning was ineffective, did not cool entire room. Had to leave it set a 65 degrees.

My wife and and I were there for our anniversary. We thought the hotel was beautiful. It was great swimming in the lagoon and seeing sea turtles swim by. It was fun to watch the dolphins. Good food and a very friendly staff. ...read more

Everything was wonderful.
Some of the prices.

From the time we checked in to the time we left the service was perfect. The food was great. The lagoon was the most enjoyable part of the big island for me. I had read some bad reviews on the boat or tram transportation to the rooms and around the resort let me assure you if your on holidays to kick back and relax they are great they come about every 10 minutes. The tram provides air conditioning and the boat offers a relaxing ride where you can sit back and relax even take it around the resort a extra time. We ate at the (steak and seafood restaurant) can't remember the name. It was our splurge for the big island. And had the breakfast buffet in the ocean tower all food was excellent. I didn't want to leave. ...read more

The private lagoon with tropical fish and turtles swimming in the waterfall.
The cost to eat at the restaurants - too expensive to eat at the resort.

Beautiful grounds.
Food very expensive on site, nothing close as an alternative.

I've stayed here before, so I am a repeat visitor. The grounds and pools are beautiful. You can be as involved or as removed from it all as you choose. The food options are OK, everything is rather expensive and there are not a lot of low cost alternatives, especially for breakfast. With that said, it's Hawaii and things are typically more expensive for dining. Convenience to golf and shopping nice, guests receive special rates on golf which is very nice. I fully recommend this resort. ...read more

hotel was clean and staff was good.
Had a Disney-Land type feel, needs a face-lift to bring up to date.

Accommodations were good, resort must have been great 10 years ago, and not it looks a bit dated, although still clean. Getting from rooms to parking took a long time.

Great location, attractive property.
Housekeeping could have been better; need to use tram or boat got annoying.

Very attractive grounds, nice rooms and amenities. The property is so large it takes a while to get from your room to your car. Ocean view from lanai was wonderful. Restaurants are exceedingly overpriced. Housekeeping could have been better. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pools are very nice. ...read more
