Situated 40 km from Porto and 5 km from the Douro River, this rustic 19th century country house provides a cosy retreat for your stay in north Portugal.Quinta do Bacêlo is surrounded by peaceful vineyards and orchards and is flanked by a large garden with swimming pool, from where there is a magnificent view over the surrounding countryside. Shady greenery surrounds the pool should you wish to escape from the Portuguese sun.The house even has its own beautiful chapel, dedicated to St. Anthony. Here you will find peace and moments to yourself. When you are feeling more adventurous you can explore the region, which offers many exciting outdoor pursuits, such as rock climbing and mountain biking. Or for something more sedate, the nearby rivers of Tamega and Douro allow for relaxing countryside walks and fishing.

Area Information
The local region has a long-standing gastronomic tradition and is steeped in history, with some traces of Roman civilization still remaining. (The Rota do Românico is an attraction.) The nearby rivers of Douro and Tâmega afford the opportunity for countryside walks, radical sports, fishing and water sports. There is a complete renewed thermal springs and spa in the area (500 metres) and a golf club (30 km). Located strategically in a region with good highway access, Quinta do Bacêlo is within a 50 km range of cities like Braga , Barcelos, Guimarães, Ponte de Lima, Amarante, Porto and Penafiel. It is a mandatory passage point for those who wish to learn about Portuguese traditions and history. Penafiel had become a city in 1770. In the city there are several important monuments. Quinta da Aveleda is a mandatory place to visit, and the Municipal Museum holds an interesting archaeology collection and ethnographic and history exhibitions.
