The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly.
The bathrooms were not very clean. Hair in bathtub and floor when we checked in.

The hotel was nice but not very clean. Could not leave my car for a short period of time until my son could pick it up. They gave us 15 minutes and then said we would have to pay after that. When we called to get a van cab we were told that we needed to call 45 minutes in advance. So we walked across the street and one was setting there. ...read more

The price was fair and the location was great. The hotel was recently remodeled which made it very nice.

The location is great. We were able to walk to almost any location that we wanted to see. I have walked by this hotel 100 times and would have never considered staying there by the look of the outside. I checked out the photos on Priceline and was very please with the price and the recent renovations. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I will be staying there again. ...read more

It is an excellent location. Easy access to museums and fine dining.

The Hotel Essex is a fine hotel and would highly recommend it for business or leisure. The gym is great. The location is excellent. I was able to walk to the great museums and fine restaurants. It was a nice hotel and well located to the shopping and museums. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

I would stay there again with the knowledge that swimming etc were not going to happen. Otherwise it was clean, nice and well priced.

Bathroom tiny, but efficient.

I loved this hotel and will return. It is perfect for business travelers, a friend's weekend, or just a visit to the city. I would put this hotel in the "boutique hotel" category. The lobby is cute and has plenty of places to relax and meet friends. The room was updated and I had a great view of Grant Park across the street. Of course, the bathroom was very small, (typical for older city hotels) but updated and perfect for me. (I wouldn't recommend it for more than 2 people.) ...read more
