The name of Great Bend comes from its location on the big bend in the Arkansas River. Numerous Native American tribes were drawn to the area by the river, large herds of bison, and huge marshland rich in wildlife. The first great American trade route - the Santa Fe Trail - ran right through the town*s present-day Courthouse Square, making Great Bend a historic crossroads for settlers on the prairie. The staff was wonderful. They made the stay excellent.
Getting very aged. Area quite run down.
The quality of all the staff members very much make up for an aging hotel with little curb appeal. They go out of their way to accommodate even the smallest of requests. Amazingly wonderful people.
