Solo Traveler
The hotel has average facilities, lobby is very nice, rooms were clean but the staff was disrespectful and insolent. After agreeing with the front desk on a price for an extended check out, the front desk person tried to charge me triple, claiming that she didn't see my arrangement, which was obviously a lie, because her co-worker didn't contest my claim and checked me out at the rate previously accorded. The security people made me go back from the elevators to the front desk because he "didn't believe me" that my companion was previously registered with the hotel. I had the worst time of my life.
No more comments the hotel service was nasty. The people at the front desk were very racial, etc.

Family with Young Children
Wireless internet is very good and easy to get. Food is great at the restaurant, the people at thed hotel are friendly, the taxi drivers outside are very nice and helpful: one took us for 80 dollars in an excursion that lasted the whole day: Boca Chica beach (a superb beach), the big caves with water, the colonial historical district, Spanish style restaurant. His name is Carlos and althoug bis car is on the slow side, he is very careful and know everything about Santo Domingo. Everybody knows him too. Traveling as Couple
Overall it was ok for the money, the only problem is if your room is on the Casino side, then you get all the noises of patron leaving the casino in the middle of the night.

Traveling as Couple
Great location and friendly staff. Our bathroom ceiling had a water leak and it was taken care of with no problems within 5 minutes of calling, I will stay there again.

Solo Traveler
This is an excellent hotel at any price but if you want a beach this is the wrong hotel it is close to shopping across the street from the ocean (no beaches though) I did not go to the casino but it is right there it is built on a Grand scale and beautifully laid out. ...read more

Family with Young Children
We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia. All of the staff that we encountered was very nice and helpful. If we were in Santo Domingo again, this is where we would stay.
