The location of this hotel is great. Many dining options close by. There is also a small outlet mall within walking distance. The continental breakfast had plenty of choices.

My wife and I wished to get away for a weekend to enjoy the fall colors of Central Wisconsin. The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Wausau-Rothschild was a wonderful place to stay. As a member of a major performing arts organization I have stayed at many hotels in Wisconsin. The room at this establishment was the most spacious I have been in. Most everything was clean and well-maintained, with one exception: our compact refrigerator was not functioning properly. I would not hesitate to book another stay at this hotel.

This hotel was a great location for us. It was clean and comfortable. My low rating on the room stems from the fact that it was a non-smoking room that reeked of smoke. I advised the front desk the next morning. My husband said he thought it might have been a musty smell but I think it was smoke.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of this hotel. I am the assistant general manager of a four-star, downtown Milwaukee, WI luxury hotel. So I'm not easily impressed. Being a chain hotel I expected it to be a "cookie cutter" property. It wasn't! There were things about it that made it a "fun" place to stay. Our room had patio doors to an outdoor terrace, flat screen television, a mini flat screen TV in the bathroom, the bathroom was huge, it had a wet bar, microwave and refrigerator, a full size closet, a recliner and desk, the pool / recreation area and fitness area was large with a regular pool, whirlpool, a kiddies pool with a neat little whale water slide in it, video games and a pool table. (I was traveling with my 3 year old son, so the kiddy pool was wonderful!). The lobby was large and impressive. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was a nice restaurant and bar located in the lobby and they also had a little "general store" area for things like water, newspapers, etc. The only thing I can think of that could be improved upon (in comparison to other mid-tier hotels) is the continental breakfast. It was very minimal, but as a free amenity (in my professional opinion) hotels have the right to include as much or as little as they choose and when something is free or included with your stay it's nice to have no matter what the selection is. I was very pleased with the hotel, especially since I wasn't expecting much.
