Hotel Guest Reviews of the Howard Johnson Express Inn - San Diego

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

the price was very affordable
I hated the driveway... it would have been nice to have more than one way up to our room- I would have been able to park right in front of our room.

The motel was fine, normal for any hotel in the area. The driveway is not very nice on cars, so if you have a low-riding car-- beware! There were security guards in the parking lot watching over the area, which I am not sure if it made me feel more secure or if I should have a reason to worry.

Location, convenient to many attractions San Diego has to offer. Priceline price was very good. to have onsite security was nice too.
Older hotel. Still had old CRT-style TV sets, which were showing their age.

The room was average. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
The hotel did not have my booking in their system when I arrived. They would not let me use the restroom while they were straightening this out with Priceline.

What i liked best was leaving. I was unable to sleep due to roaches. I literally left hotel at daybreak. I shouldnt be charged anything for my hellish night of anxiety and fear

The price.
The couch was badly stained and absolutely disgusting. Someone had urinated in the toilet in my room and had not flushed it.

I would not recommend this place if you think you are going to get an enjoyable place. If you are looking for a place to spend one quick night it would be barely acceptable.

Convienant location

Room was an average room. Beds are hard. Called front desk 3 times first day for a plunger. Called angain later twice for extra pillows first time they said they would bring some up. 1 hour later after second call they said they were out. Box spring had a huge nasty stain on side. Did not want to know what that was. And to top it all off cockroach was in shower.

I did not like much about this hotel, other than the staff was frendly. The breakfast was O.K. The rooms left a lot to be desired.
The hotel was old and run down.

The Hotel was in a desireable area, but lots of noise from the freeway. If you run the air conditioner you don't hear the freeway noise. The hotel was old and run down. Cleaniness left a lot to be desired! Bring your own pillows because the ones they use were old and decomposed.

Fast and earlier check in
Room smells like tobacco smoke, didn't like it.

Great staff. Easy and fast check in. Affordable rates. I just didn't like how my room smells.

When i was leaving
Yes

This hotel was the biggest dive i have ever stayed in. There was so much air coming through the door that i caught a cold. There was paper stuck in the peep hole where you would ck to see who was knocking on Ur door. the hotel said free internet but could not log in. When i tried calling guest services he would not answer tgeh phone after 4 attempts. So i was niot able to submit my work. When i arrived i could tell that i woke him out of a very good sleep. No hello or any type of greeting iwill nevec stay there again. Also will tell others to stay away from that place. Very disappointing. I asked for s consoling room an guess what, it was a smoking room or at least someone had smoked in it. My clothes that i slept in riddled with cigarette smoke. ...read more
