Hotel Guest Reviews of the Howard Johnson Portland Airport

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The thing I liked about this hotel was that it was a 10 minute drive to Wal-Mart to get cleaning supplies and other things to make the room acceptable.
My mother is old and doesn't have good health. They had to stay on the third floor and walk up stairs because there is no elevator. Room was dirty, no parking and staffing is not nice in any way.

I know it is a low star hotel but was in need of something fast. I just can't believe it is that bad of a hotel. They wont even work with people that have bad health. Instead they watch while they walk up stairs. There was mold in the rooms and holes in the bath tubs. It is amazing that the health department hasn't condemned the building. I have stayed in a Howard Johnson before and it was nice. The only thing nice about this place is the free continental breakfast they offered. Also being next to Wal-Mart for cleaning supplies was nice too. I would never make my kids and parents stay there again. There are much better places in Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington for basically the same price. ...read more

DRAIN IN SINK WOULD NOT STAY OPEN. HAD TO PROP IT UP WITH A STRAW SO IT WOULD DRAIN. EXIT SIGN FELL OUT OF CEILING RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR DOOR SO EXIT DOOR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN. INSTEAD OF REPAIRING, THEY REMOVED IT. NO EXIT SIGN NOW. UNSAFE.

PRETTY RUN DOWN HOTEL. DID NOT LIKE THE RAT TRAPS PLACED RIGHT OUTSIDE THE ROOMS WITH WARNING NOT TO TOUCH-POISON. INTERNET ACCESS WAS ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. VERY FEW TELEVISION CHANNELS. HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER BUILDING FOR ICE. JUST NOT REAL CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. ALSO HAD NASTY MATTRESSES IN HALLWAY THAT GUESTS COULD SEE. PRETTY DISGUSTING.

pretty quiet
the internet was very spotty and slow most of the time, so if you need to do work while you are there it might not be the best place

overall worth the price, i just wish the internet was a little better. if you advertise free wifi, it has to be decent. it went out alot or went very slow, and i was doing research online, which made it very difficult at times, forcing me to hang out at starbucks to finish my work when i would have much rather had the privacy of my room that i paid for

It is on a bus line and there is a free shuttle to airport. There is a good 7-11 convenience store next door. You can get beer and wine until 2.30am and they sell reasonable sandwiches and salads and other foods/beverages.
The wifi did not work in the room. I had to go to the office/dining area. No bars or restaurants within walking distance (except a scary looking Indian buffet place). Staying nearer downtown Portland was a more enjoyable experience.

Pros Room is OK for the price Heat/ac window opens, but no screens small dorm size fridge microwave breakfast (6 to 9): cereals, fruit somedays, coffee OK, tea. There is a SamTrans bus that goes towards Portland, and MAX train. Buses are great and very good value, especially if you use Google Maps and/or apps, or Trimet website. Cons Bathroom a bit small Small toilet seat Cable TV missing lots of channels Breakfast is all white bread and white pastry. Dining room small, get there early or late.... Shuttle small, book it ahead of time and arrive at van early. ...read more

Location and great staff. Also, a quiet sleep.
No PBS channel.

We like this motel due to its proximity to the people we visit, the excellent staff, and the more-than-adequate accommodations. And the price is perfect!

Nothing really....
The staff was rude. They charged me for two queens when I was given a single queen. Now they don't want to refund the difference. The area of the hotel was very shady.

The location is in the ghetto. The staff was rude and very uncooperative. The room was average. There were sketchy people walking around all hours of the night! I would never book here again! Especially if you have children.

The room was nice. I had a pet and the hotel was pet friendly.
I was surprised by the additional $15.00 pet fee. They would not allow me to have a double instead of a single bed without another $15.00 upcharge. They did not have a first aid kit at the front desk.

The hotel is fine if you need a place to stay near the airport. Don't ask for anything extra, you won't get it or you'll have to pay. The rooms were nice. The beds were comfortable.
