Hotel Guest Reviews of the Menger Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The hotel was in a fantastic location and the lobby was beautiful. The hotel was full of history and the Minger bar was interesting. Domestic beer was $5 per bottle though.
There was a lot of dust on the TV armoire, the bathroom was extremely small, the bedding was outdated with a blue dust ruffle and the shower would go from hot to cold, etc. I stored my luggage and they left it outside for at least 3 hrs on a cart.

Great location and pretty building.
Room was small and noisy (noise from inside the hotel). Bathroom tiny and water temperature kept fluctuating between hot and cold making for a terrible shower. They charge a lot for parking and everything else.

Avoid if you can. This hotel is great because of the location and the historic building, but the rooms are very sub-par. It's directly across from the Alamo/Riverwalk making for a fantastic location within walking distance of all the tourist attractions downtown. However, I would not stay here again if given the choice. Our room was small and noisy. Not street noise, but from inside the hotel. We could clearly hear conversations from the hallway and could even hear the elevator operate (and we were a few rooms away from it). This woke my SO up several times. The bathroom was tiny; hard to have 2 people in it at the same time. The shower water temperature continuously fluctuated between hot and cold. Additionally, parking is a hassle with $28/day valet from hotel or $18/day in one of the neighboring lots. If you absolutely must be downtown, try a different hotel. Pros: -Location -Nice bed Cons: -Noisy rooms -Tiny Rooms -Terrible showers -Charge for anything they can ...read more

The displays of the historic memorabilia and the bar.
We were initially booked into the "Original" side of the hotel, this place is very very very old and needs to be updated. The initial room was a throwback to the 1800's literally. It was cold and clammy and damp and just too dated and small.

After complaining we were moved to a newer side of the hotel and it was a little better. For paying xxx which I must say is the most I have every paid, I was very very disapointed!! I normally stay at Comfort Inn's, Motel 6 and America's Best for around
xxx a night and I felt like I was raped on this "deal!!" Oh and let me say this, I called the hotel in an attempt to get directions to the place. My first call, I was transferred two times and given the wrong directions and we ended up clear across town heading out of town. On my 3rd call to the hotel I was giving "close" directions and had to ask two cops. Unfortunately for me, it was Fiesta time and most of the streets to this hotel were closed and twice we ended up back on the freeway going the wrong way for miles many miles before we could turn around, uhhhhhh!!!! This hotel is hidden and for the lay person not familiar with the area, they will have a hard time finding it. Hell the street that the hotel claims is it's address isn't even visible. ...read more

The location was perfect and the hotel had so much charm, it was almost like I was back in the early 1900's.

The Menger Hotel is steeped in history. And, you abosolutely cannot beat the location. It is literally right next door to the Alamo, faces Alamo Square. Also, the public area -- lobby, poolside courtyard, and restaurant are beautiful.
My room was a "lock out" room with a door to the adjacent room. There were times where I could hear conversation from the room next door. This was a little bothersome, but I suppose it is what you can expect from such an older hotel.

Incredible location! Steeped in history! The public areas: lobby, dining room, poolside patio, are spectactular. Take you back to yesteryear. Only downside is that the room was a little noisey.

They have absolutely no idea what customer service is.

I called 3 weeks ago and they are refusing to refund our money. When I call about the issue they have the absolute worst customer service that I have ever experienced. I will never have anything to do with a company that has unscrupulous ethics and are basically thieves when it come to refunding. The reservation was cancelled due to a rescheduling of plans. THIS PLACE IS ZERO ON MY LIST ...read more

Quite central to downtown and the Riverwalk. The nighttime desk staff was great. Dining room food was ok; room service was affordable and delicious. Spa was very competitively priced with great staff. Bartenders were fun, friendly, and knowledgeable.
Room was quite small and too outdated even for a historic hotel, not worth the price. The bathroom was the worst--dirty with poor lighting and absolutely NO water pressure which made showering very challenging. I'm glad I stayed once but wouldn't again.

Decor
Unfriendly staff except for the room service

Great location. Lots of historical value to this hotel. Beautiful decor. Need to update media apparatuses in guests' rooms. Water did not stay a constant temperature in the shower.

Beautiful public spaces and history.
Room was very small with a view of a brick wall. Sounds travelled easily through walls.

Great location within walking distance of most attractions. Tour bus stops right in front. Next to the Alamo.
