The outside noise level for the Mediterranean Suite was quite loud - would be nice if the Suites were located higher up.

The outside noise level for the Mediterranean Suite was quite loud - would be nice if the Suites were located higher up, so as to cut down on the disturbing noises from outside. We were woken up by whistles and sirens and people late at night laughing and talking at bar time. For a Suite at this price level, I would have expected the room to be a bit more sound proof to outside noises. But overall, nice, romantic room, and did the job for me and my boyfriend. ...read more

The evening wine gathering.
Furniture in the common area was worn and uncomfortable.

I enjoy the Kimpton hotel chain. When selecting a hotel I looked for this specifically.

Eccentric but luxurious - lots of character and comfort.
The shower/tub were not at the same standard of comfort and luxury.

The Monaco is a conveniently located boutique hotel that clearly makes an effort to meet the needs of and provide hospitality to all. The styling of the rooms and the quality of the furnishings are deserving of the descriptor "luxurious," though the bathtubs in the standard rooms do not quite meet the quality of the rest of the experience. Many lovely views are available, though there are plenty of alley views, as well - so don't count on a view unless you've requested one. The restaurant is also very pleasant, with a high quality menu and attentive wait staff. I would recommend Kimpton Hotels highly to anyone traveling - for business or leisure. ...read more

Good location, and reasonably friendly staff.
Expensive room faced a noisy train, and no pool.

It's a nice location, but perhaps a bit overpriced. Our room was fine - not great, just "fine." Why on earth they would put the expensive suites closest to the noisy train is beyond me... Get a river view if you can to be away from the train. Next time we'll go back to the Kimpton Palomar where we stayed last year, it was a much nicer experience.
