Hotel Guest Reviews of the Palomar San Diego, A Kimpton Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Great location with a daughter who wanted to explore the night life , also a car was not needed
No, maybe that the other pool was broken and this one would be so full,

Nice wine/ beer reception. Room with no view did not matter , great spa, book early!

This place is fancy in a way that makes it lose its appeal to me. Very dark all over non inviting.

This place is fancy in a way that made it lose all of its initial appeal from our first look. The deeper you got into the place the more dark it became. Very dark all over making it non inviting. 4 stars for sure, but these 4 made this hotel very inconvenient for me and my family. Lots of staff looking to help, but each was only in that for a big tip. If you gave a too small of a tip they clearly had you labeled and could feel them looking down upon you for the rest of our time. The pool was again moot due to it being outside and having the chill. I think this is a very artistic place to stay, but not for the family stay in my opinion. We just never seems to fit in anywhere. Right out of the gate they also stuck us in one of the handy capable rooms with the low hung shower and oddly made tub and bathroom to accommodate. This practice by the way is something I find typical of places like this. 4 stars that take our bids made upon price line trying to low ball your experience. I wish they would just not take the bids and be serious about the system. The overall experience felt compromised from start to finish. Two of the staff were very helpful starting with the receptionist, but again she stuck us in the room we just did not fit in. She seems to feel guilty and comped us two of they way over priced drinks with two tickets. The bartender rang up 13.00 dollars a piece for a couple glasses of wine you could buy an entire bottle of for 8 dollars just at the corner CVS so I thank her for helping not have to pay for finding that out. This is a p-lace that provides that polite snobbery that some folks really crave. It is a place the will make sure you know right away that you don't belong and keep doing a great job making you feel exactly that throughout your stay. This is why we left the hotel every chance we could to buy our food and drinks elsewhere. ...read more

Great rooms, location and staff. Scratchy towels, had to ask for more each day. The bath tub drain didn't work asked twice for a new one w/ no response. Overall nice place.

Parking with Vallet is close to $40 if your not going in and out w/ your car park it across the street $20 for the day.

Nice bathroom
Front desk clerks not happy with priceline users. Gave a father and 2 tween girls a room with 1 bed. Would not accommodate unless we paid 100 more per night for a bigger room with only 1 bed. the neighbor hood is not kid friendly better for young adults.

A father daughter and best friend were so excited to arrive at the Kimpton in San Diego. Immediately we realized we were given a tiny room with 1 bed. i asked the hotel clerk about this and she said I booked through a 3rd party so she could not accommodate us. We were flabbergasted, 3 people in one bed? We were staying for 6 nights? This couldn't be true. They offered us a roll away bed for free that they normally charge 25 per night for. They were not kidding. I told her I was greatly disappointed and she offered a bigger room but still with 1 bed for 100 per night extra. I tried to haggle the price with the manager with no avail. We proceeded to our quarters which was smaller than my bathroom with only 1 bed. i reluctantly took her offer for the bigger room but would not stay with Kimpton again. ...read more

Great location. Close to zoo, restaraunts, quick drive to Coronado.
They were not able to accommodate our need for two double beds because they were booked. Neither the Hotel nor Priceline were willing to let me cancel my reservation. Our family did not fit comfortably in the room. I was really disappointed

It seemed like a nice hotel. It was right in the middle of downtown. There was a drug store right across the street. If we had been planning to do things in the city it would have been really convenient.
They didn't have alot of the amenities that normal hotels do (breakfast, ice machines, etc) just free coffee and tea in the morning. My husband thought that they were kind of snooty. Not really a place for a family with four kids. Expensive parking.

Not a family place. I wouldn't stay here with my kids again. Somehow our room was only booked for two adults and we have four kids. They brought a twin cot and we had a king-sized bed so we fit but we were stuffed in the room like sardines. My husband felt like they didn't have self-service for a lot of things (i.e. ice) so you would have to tip the staff when they brought it to you. If you want reasonable parking prices, be prepared to walk. We parked at park it on market. .75 mile which was not bad and allowed us to see the city. There are some neat businesses/ eateries close. I actually didn't notice that it was right next to a bar until Thursday night when the bar opened. It wasn't bother some or anything and if We hadn't been there with the kids might have been convenient. The room was nice and clean, just not the right place for us. ...read more

nice hotel good location down town I also liked the swivle doors
the shower was not very clean in that the rain shower head flowed in 9 differnt directions (hard water buildup) should get some CLR.

No where was it mentioned there is or was a 38 dollar a night fee for valet parking, the only reason I used valet was because this was not a vacation but business so I wasnt paying, otherwise would have been rather upset that the closest overnight parking was 4 blocks away really 38 DOLLARS okay 20 25 dollars okay its fine but roughly 40 if I only park my car once once I add tip we are talking 45-50.All I can say this is very expensive ...read more
