Hotel Guest Reviews of the Phoenix Park Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Great location relative to Union Station and museums.
The place absolutely reeked of fried fish 24 hours a day and the rooms had virtually no sound insulation.

The Phoenix Park is a good value for Washington DC when you consider price and location. Although it is billed as somewhat of a luxury hotel we did not get that feeling while staying there. They have a doorman and provide bath robes and some Irish toiletries but it takes more then that to be a luxury property. The overall experience, decor and condition of the rooms gave more of a "value" hotel feel.
Overall we were satisfied with our stay based on the price we paid but would have been very disappointed if we had paid more. Two significant issues we encountered: The lobby, dining areas, elevator and landings on most floors are filled with an overwhelming stench of fried fish 24 hours a day. The smell is coming from the pub which shares a door into the lobby right next to where the elevators are. The elevators then carry the smell to every floor. The smell was repulsive enough that we didn't want to eat in the hotel as we'd have to endure that smell during our meals. Our room had a door connecting it to an adjacent room. Despite the doors on each side being closed, we could hear every word the people in the next room said and they were just having a normal conversation. We were a good distance from the elevators but could plainly hear people conversing there along with noise from several rooms away. We don't expect total quiet in a hotel but we got the impression that sound control and sound insulation between rooms is non-existent. There is also the construction noise next door. Despite asking for a room away from the construction zone and being told we had one, we were right next to it. They start work early so if you're not an early riser, bring ear plugs. We saw comments about the fish stink and construction noise from other travelers but thought maybe they were just overly sensitive. Turns out those issues are very real.

Location was convenient to Amtrack and Metro. Good restaurants nearby & at Union Station.

We visited DC with two young grandchildren (ages 6 and 3) and our daughter. The staff was helpful upon arrival after a long trip. The beds were comfortable and our adjoining rooms gave us privacy when we wanted it, yet safety to our grandchildren since they were able to move easily between the two rooms. Arriving on Amtrack and taking the Metro for our sightseeing, the hotel was very well located. The restaurants had good food at reasonable prices. The rooms & baths were clean and well taken care of by the hotel housekeeping staff. Overall, a wonderful stay. ...read more

Boutique hotel feel at an affordable price.
Grandma's wallpaper and room decor. Could use some modernization.

Very nice hotel. Clean, good location within a very short walk from Union Station. Your grandmother will love the room decor while you will think it quaint. Great Irish pub/restaurant on the first floor! Usually, I never wait more than 20 minutes for a restaurant, but this place was well worth it! Congenial atmosphere, great beer selection and the food was excellent and moderately priced. Highly recommended. ...read more

Very comfortable beds and quality linens. The room was also very clean.
Free Wi-Fi was difficult to connect to with 2 of our 4 devices. Internet was also slow.

Very nice hotel. Front desk staff could have been a little friendlier/more outgoing. but the rest of the staff was very nice. The beds and linens were very comfortable.

Safe in room did not work. Drafty window. Hotel staff did not address these issues despite requests.

The room was comfortable and had a nice view.
The staff was unprepared, distracted, and the bell hop was very very pushy.

I had high hopes for this hotel, but they were not really worth the price. It was not easy to check in and it seemed like we were inconveniencing them when we did.

Convenient to attractions, public transportation, and also very attractive! And the view of the Capital was terrific.
Ongoing construction next door was noisy and made walking difficult on the street.

It was just what we were looking for. Convenient to the attractions both through public transportation and on foot, with a great Washington atmosphere. We considered it a real bonus that it was a National Historic Trust site which we hadn't known. It was a lovely little room completely comfortable for the four days three nights we spent in Washington. I also loved the Irish toiletries! Staff was congenial and highly respectful as well as efficient. And the rate was unexpectedly reasonable for the amenities. A great little hotel!

The location is few steps from Union Station & US Capital.
The room is not carefully check before the guest arrived.

Generally, for the price-it is good hotel to stay in Washington DC for both business and traveler. The Wireless signal is very good. You can stream music & movie online. The location is few step to Union Station and short walking from US Capital Hall. The staffs who are some of them are nice, and some of them are rude as we can expected from all human being personalities.

Great service! Great price, great room. The location was perfect for me & the staff followed through. WONDERFUL!
There was some construction next door, but it had no effect on our stay & is temporary.

I was traveling with an 11 year old to absorb some US history. We were well taken care of at the Phoenix Park hotel, the staff didn't miss a beat and returned to me something very important that I left at the hotel. The Dubliner served delicious food and the atmosphere was very friendly. The location for a DC tourist couldn't be better. Very comfortable room and I slept like a baby in a great bed, was very quiet and peaceful. ...read more
