Las Vegas Neighborhoods
Las Vegas Strip
The hotels range from five-star luxury resorts to theme-based and offer a wide assortment of gambling and entertainment options. Some of the most famous Broadway shows have been brought to The Strip as well as five Cirque de Soleil shows, Blue Man Group and several well-known game shows. If the desert sun and packed casinos aren't your style, the shopping options will keep you busy spending money for hours. Across from the Wynn Las Vegas hotel is the Fashion Show Mall, which has over 200 stores and a variety of restaurants. Located within the Venetian are the Grand Canal Shoppes which line a faux Italian canal complete with gondolas, singing gondoliers and tons of souvenir options. If you're still not shopped-out, there is the Miracle Mile located in the Planet Hollywood hotel which will have a Los Angeles theme.
Downtown, Fremont Street
Low-key and relaxed, the Fremont Street area of Las Vegas offers a more intimate experience for visitors as well as plenty of entertainment thanks to the Fremont Street Experience. The hotels and casinos that line Fremont Street are less expansive than those on The Strip and can be less expensive and crowded. While in the area, visitors can also take part in Fremont East which draws attention to the glamorous side of old Las Vegas. Wider sidewalks, pedestrian-friendly streets, manicured landscaping and bright gateways provide a great place to stroll after a big meal and an even bigger dessert.
Airport
McCarran International Airport is located centrally to most Las Vegas hotels. The Strip is just a cab ride away and there are also several hotels that are within minutes of the runway if living the high life isn't part of your trip to Vegas. Getting to your hotel is simple at this international airport. If you're staying on the Strip, renting a car may be more of a headache than a convenience since cabs are so readily available. However, most hotels and casinos offer free parking, so if a day trip or two is on your schedule, a car rental is the way to go. Affordable shuttles are also available for easy access to and from your hotel. They are usually located on the west side of the bag claim between Doors 8 to 13.
Outside Vegas
Hotels outside of Las Vegas city limits range from five-star spa resorts to simple motels. Whether you're going hiking in Henderson at Lake Las Vegas or need a few days to relax by a pool in Summerlin, northwest of the city, most activities are just a day trip away from the bright lights of Vegas. The environment surrounding the ever-expanding city in the middle of the desert is quite diverse. Lake Mead provides miles of open water to explore and Red Rock offers mile upon mile of stark beauty to explore on foot or bike. No trip to southern Nevada is complete without a visit to the magnificent Hoover Dam. Just minutes outside of Vegas, this man-made wonder is the perfect trip for families or if you’re travelling for business and have a few hours to yourself. There is a smattering of hotels along the way to the dam as well as in Boulder City to choose from if your trip last longer than expected. The Las Vegas Speedway in Nellis also makes a great day-trip and is located north of the city.
