Hotel Guest Reviews of the Shem Creek Inn

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Location
Description stated "marsh side", but room was facing the parking lot. Not enough parking. Coffee pot was broken.

Room should have been a lot nicer for the price paid. Have stayed in less expensive hotels that had much nicer rooms. For a few dollars more, could have stayed in historic section of downtown Charleston.

Great location but when balanced with the birds doing their business in the pool around the pool deck and on all balcony railings i guess the location attracted the mess. Staff did not seem to even try to stay on top of cleaning up after the birds.
Don't stay in rooms 124 or 224 the old central air conditioning system was extremely loud and right outside the windows rather than being on the roof.

Deshawn at the front desk could not have been more helpful. We had a large wedding group and he was able to meet the needs of the entire party. Epps/Davidson party!!! That man should get an award for all that he does.

Bring your own pool towels, they don't have any out at the pool and the bath towels are a little small for the pool. So much fun sitting out on the pool deck in the evening with the amazing night life steps away from your home. The hotel staff was wonderful. Nice casual breakfast each morning in the lobby.

The view out of the room was nice
The hotel is old or as my husband says, quaint. There were no real amenities otherthan continental breakfeast

The mattresses were too soft. If you sat on the edge you fell off. There was mildew on the shower Mat in tub and around caulking. The deck was very weatherbeaten and needed paint. Just really old. Pictures online were most likely when it opened. The good was the continental breakfast. There was fruit, oatmeal, grits, cereal and must husbands favorite, crispy kreme donuts. There is a hidden treasure down the road, Paige's okra grill. The best biscuits and breakfast. Hotel staff very nice. ...read more

This hotel is all about location. There are 3 nice seafood restaurants very close by, as many bars, a boardwalk along the creek and many people enjoying the atmosphere. It is a lovely location.
The room was not particularly well maintained with missing handles on furniture and burned out light bulbs (we had replaced), and a siding glass door to a little balcony which sorely needed oil and repair to slide decently. Some staff was friendly.

The pro is location which is conducive to partying or fine dining. Also parking is easy and safe. The boardwalk along Shem Creek is a recent addition, well built and very nice to walk on. It is fun to watch the boats come and go. Many fishing trawlers are docked there and were decked out in colorful flags for the weekend. Young and old seemed to be having a good time, and the restaurants we attended had very good food. One restaurant was very upscale and we chose the more moderately priced one next to the hotel. I don't understand why they don't take better care of the hotel room though. I will say that the bed was very comfortable and made us think if buying a new mattress at home. I do recommend this hotel if this is the kind of environment you are looking for and maybe some of the rooms are better maintained than the one we had. ...read more

Beds were very comfortable and refrigerator and microwave came in very handy
Parking was minimal as there were two restaurants and a fresh seafood market all sharing a common parking lot which made it difficult at times to find a parking spot

Breakfast area could only accommodate 10 guests so it was crowded most of the time, but the hours were good so you could go early or late and get a seat. The front desk staff was not very attentive and you felt like you were interrupting them to ask a question...overall we enjoyed the room and location but feel that the star rating should be more like 2 instead of 3. If we had paid the rack rate for this hotel we would have been very disappointed but thanks to Priceline we got it for considerably less. ...read more

Its closeness to the wedding I was attending on Sullivan's Island

From the road, the hotel looks bad. However, it is nicer than it looks. It is old but it is well maintained. Everything was neat and clean and I did appreciate that.

The marsh view is very nice. 2nd floor far end is quiet. Our room had been renovated so everything was new a working. Mattresses were very comfy.
Hotel a bit dated but, that's okay. Elevator needs sprucing up.

Got this on a "bid" and got a great value. It's a great location to water activities and you can walk down the boardwalk over the marsh and pick up a water taxi to downtown Charleston, They had us booked in the marsh-side 2nd floor room, which is what we were hoping for. We like quiet. Room was large and renovated. Very clean and comfortable overall. Staff was pleasant and have we no complaints. Since it is a local "inn" that's been around for a while, they'll be some quirks and a little less shine but that's to be expected. Yes would recommend and once again, Priceline worked well. ...read more

Great location! Right on the water and within walking distance to great restaurants and bars. Close to the bridge so it's easy to get to downtown Charleston.
The breakfast was a little lacking. The lobby decor was a little dated.

Great location if you have a wedding in Mt. Pleasant or Sullivan's Island and another wedding event Downtown Charleston.

It was so much fun being on Shem Creek! It is definitely a party place. Watching the boats and kayaks going up and down the Creek was so much fun!! The highlight of the weekend was listening to someone sing like Elvis across the Creek at RB' restaurant.
