Sofitel Karnak Luxor

A good option during low season. We are budget travelers and the budget hotel options in Luxor are very poor. The rooms and facilities are very clean, just not five star (maybe four). I don't think I'll pay full regular price to stay at this place. The buffet breakfast was passable and an important meal of our day: restaurant options in Luxor are very poor. The biggest problem we had was with the reservation desk. The young Egyptian there made us wait for an hour and a half because he couldn't find our reservation. Apparently Priceline sent the reservation to the Sofitel head office and there was some sort of miscommunication between the head office and the resort. Nevertheless the young Egyptian wouldn't let us check in until he has the confirmation. We asked to use the Internet so we could show him the Priceline reservation, but he wanted to charge us $8 just to access the Internet. We arrived at 5 am in a dazed state after an all-night train ride from Cairo, and the staff set us up with a room right away - no waiting for check-in. We had left our passports in Cairo and only had some basic other ID, but they let us check in anyway. They did everything possible to make us comfortable and welcome. The grounds were incredibly lovely, our room cool and comfortable, and the hotel security was exceptional. I can only praise the facility and its staff!
