The price - I really didn't want to pay over XXX a night and I realize that's really hard to do in NYC without sharing a bathroom or being in a dorm-type set-up. GEM was the right price AND in the right location. Perfect!
Houston is a very busy street - all day and all night. Our 3rd floor room did get a lot of outside ambient noise. And the bathtub was VERY VERY slippery. Neither of these things would stop us from staying there again.

If you need to be in the lower east side - this is the hotel to stay at. The price makes staying in NYC affordable. It is 2 blocks from the F train, many restaurants around the block, within walking distance to Chinatown. The rooms are small, but clean. Staff is friendly and helpful - the local gem recommendations were spot on. We highly recommend going to Sugars on Allen and Houston for breakfast. ...read more

Comparatively low price for a nice room in Manhattan. Great staff although maid service occurs late in the afternoon.
Expected a slightly larger room but not a negative.

The location.
Room was too small and the shower made a loud noise when on. The water temperature was horrible. It went from scorching hot to freezing cold no warm.

I am very disappointed with my stay. Although the location was great for what I needed to do, it was a very small and not what I imagines for the price. I have stayed at the GEM in Chelsea and paid less money for a bigger room and it was a much better experience. I will never stay at this location ever again just because for me it was not worth the money. The lady at the front desk was nice but nothing extraordinary compared to the staff at the GEM Chelsea. Much better location and stay in Chelsea. No recommendations for the SOHO location. ...read more

I loved the location since I had all my meetings in the Soho / Westside of New York. Everything was in walkable distances and a subway station right in front of the hotel. There were a lot of nice restaurants and hip places to go to. No need of cabs or su
They have a cellar floor. Just make sure, that when you book the hotel, to contact them prior of arrival. I spent one night on the ground/cellar floor. But they were kind enough to put me on the top floor the rest of the stay.

Kind staff, Central, and felt secure in this hotel. I will definitely go back there next time. Price of the room was way below the average in Soho, plus it doesn't have a cheap side. Newly renovated rooms, which are small though, but big enough for a good stay in New York for two people.

The staff was so friendly and helpful!
We lost a very valuable necklace and they claimed they couldn't find it.

It was convenient to our event location. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with directions and told us where we would have the most fun!

Staff very friendly, very quiet inside of our room.

I called the day before to ask for early check in and the person at the desk was extremely helpful and he asked me to call him personally on Wednesday
AM to see about availability of early check in. We did get early check in so we were very happy.

Didn't have to ask for anything, everything was in the room that was needed. The staff were very nice.
Only thing I didn't like was the noise from the street, but it is New York. :)

Close to a huge Whole Foods store and a restaurant called Pulino's that we really enjoyed for breakfast.
Wasn't super crazy about the location. I was actually trying to book the Gem in Chelsea but in my haste I must've clicked on the one in "SOHO".

Everyone we had contact with was very friendly and helpful, especially the guy at the front desk, I forget his name but he was great. The room was clean and comfortable; nice bed. The common areas are in need of a little sprucing up.

It was clean with comfy beds.
Rooms are a bit small.

It was a nice hotel with a nice staff in a nice price range. I would stay again.

Location
Small rooms, wi-fi didn't work, hallway lightbulb out, across from elevator.

No-frills hotel, no fridge/amenities, small rooms, loud park across street.
