Hotel Guest Reviews of the The James Chicago

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Staff very friendly and helpful.

The room we had was great. The views aren't anything to rave about. We stayed once before and had a very small room -- it was actually awful (i.e. so small). I was not happy when we bid and The James accepted. But, it turned out great -- we really liked it this time. Ate in the restaurant -- OUTSTANDING!

This hotel has excellent friendly and knowledgeable staff. Their 2 pm checkout was also very helpful for people who sleep in. The location is user convenient. Would definitely go again if I need to travel to Chicago

It was a great location, with public parking on the same block. There was a Starbucks and a Trader Joe's right across the street. It was within walking of Michigan Ave and Rush Street.
The rooms were kind of small, but clean and modern looking.

We were greeted at the door and check in was quick. The room was ready for us and very clean. The next morning when we showered, the drain worked very slowly and the light in the shower didn't work. There was large bottles of botanical shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower and very large, soft towels. The robes were also very soft. When we came back from a late dinner, we realized they provide turn-down service. That was nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. ...read more

Excellent downtown location, very attentive staff, very clean, tastefully decorated.
The sofa in our room was really hard and uncomfortable, but the beds were nice.

Perfectly great stay. We received an upgraded room at check in, our kids enjoyed a king sized bed and projection TV with free DVD's available and nightly turn down service with cookies. No pool on premises, but we were allowed to use the pool at the hotel across the street. Many nice restaurant choices within walking distance, such as the Rain Forest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, the Grand Lux and a really good Chinese restaurant right across the street. The staff were all very friendly, courteous and helpful. When we wanted to get the laptop we left in our car, the valet offered to go get it and bring it to our room. ...read more

The look, furniture and style. Modern and contemporary rooms. Friendly staff.

When I arrived they did not have my reservation and claimed it was not in their system at all. They had me forward them my confirmation e-mail from my phone at the front desk. I found it very odd since Priceline is a very reputable booking site and I have done it several times before. They were courteous enough to say it was on their end and set me up in a new room regardless. I got 2 temporary room charges on my credit card because of this, but they both went away. Overall I enjoyed the hotel. It did not have a "WOW" factor though. The furniture and a few features of the room seemed a little worn and dated.. but it was still a pleasant place to stay. If i was staying for just a night or two, I would probably return. ...read more

The location is smack dab of Mag Mile shopping.
The view on the 10th floor stared at the hotel across the street.

Everything expected from a modern high end hotel. The lack of view and lack of local Chicago television were the only downers. Our view was the hotel across the street. The staff was very nice and always attentive. Plenty of shops and food with its location near the Mag Mile.

The friendliness and helpfulness of staff. they found out my daughter got accepted into a residency at Northwestern and sent her a bottle of champagne and chocolates with a card signed by all their staff. that was so kind and makes me want to return!
Loved it all!

Make use of the concierge. She was very helpful with restaurants, making reservations, giving us maps, etc.

The James was a great place to stay in Chicago! The location is perfect. the staff was super friendly and helpful. and the room was great for the $! I would stay there again!
I loved that the price we paid was all-inclusive. except for parking. which is $52 a day. I didn't like the pillows. I should have broght mine from home.

The location is perfect for shopping and restaurants!! The staff was very accomodative. The gym was far better than anticipated! The only thing I wished they had an ice machine available. They would bring you ice but it was a pain to call for and took awhile to come up.
