The James Chicago

This is a very nice boutique hotel in a fantastic location. The service was excellent. On the downside, our room was very small and sparsely decorated and sterile feeling. We had a view of the rooftop next door and a brick wall.

We splurged on this room -- cost xxx
with taxes. Although staff were nice, we enjoyed our xxx room at a chain on the way home more than the James. We paid less for the Four Seasons on our honeymoon -- we were really so disappointed. We did not feel cozy or pampered -- just like we were in a grim dorm room.

The room we had was great. The views aren't anything to rave about. We stayed once before and had a very small room -- it was actually awful (i.e. so small). I was not happy when we bid and The James accepted. But, it turned out great -- we really liked it this time. Ate in the restaurant -- OUTSTANDING!

This hotel has excellent friendly and knowledgeable staff. Their 2 pm checkout was also very helpful for people who sleep in. The location is user convenient. Would definitely go again if I need to travel to Chicago

We were greeted at the door and check in was quick. The room was ready for us and very clean. The next morning when we showered, the drain worked very slowly and the light in the shower didn't work. There was large bottles of botanical shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower and very large, soft towels. The robes were also very soft. Great little breakfast spot across the street e.leaven

Perfectly great stay. We received an upgraded room at check in, our kids enjoyed a king sized bed and projection TV with free DVD's available and nightly turn down service with cookies. No pool on premises, but we were allowed to use the pool at the hotel across the street. Many nice restaurant choices within walking distance, such as the Rain Forest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, the Grand Lux and a really good Chinese restaurant right across the street. When I arrived they did not have my reservation and claimed it was not in their system at all. They had me forward them my confirmation e-mail from my phone at the front desk. I found it very odd since Priceline is a very reputable booking site and I have done it several times before. They were courteous enough to say it was on their end and set me up in a new room regardless. I got 2 temporary room charges on my credit card because of this, but they both went away. Overall I enjoyed the hotel. It did not have a "WOW" factor though. The furniture and a few features of the room seemed a little worn and dated.. but it was still a pleasant place to stay.
