Exuding an "Old Hollywood glamour", this former "playground of the stars" from the '20s and '30s (19 miles from Palm Springs) draws raves for its "magnificent grounds" full of "beautiful flowers", more than 40 swimming pools sprinkled among the "delightful" casitas and suites, and "exceptional" golf and tennis facilities; but foes find an "unremarkable" spa, "dining that needs improvement" and an overall "tiredness" – and not just because the "too-spread-out" design is exhausting.
