Exuding an "Old Hollywood glamour", this former "playground of the stars" from the '20s and '30s (19 miles from Palm Springs) draws raves for its "magnificent grounds" full of "beautiful flowers", more than 40 swimming pools sprinkled among the "delightful" casitas and suites, and "exceptional" golf and tennis facilities; but foes find an "unremarkable" spa, "dining that needs improvement" and an overall "tiredness" – and not just because the "too-spread-out" design is exhausting.

"Nestled up against the gorgeous Santa Rosa Mountains", this "absolutely stunning" Pete Dye design features "lots of water" and "elevation changes" on a "serious target golf" layout that's "half on the flatlands and half winding through the mountains" ("holes 14–16 are worth the trip alone"); a few fret about the "expensive" greens fees, but when you factor in the "friendly, helpful staff", "great facilities" and "incredible setting", it's "a bargain even at the high price."

"Get ready for a ride" on this "butt-kicker of a course" that's "like a funhouse" – "nothing is what it seems and you leave feeling dizzy" – thanks to an "extremely tough" design that's "devious Pete Dye at his best"; despite the "lightning-fast greens" and "traps you could lose your car in" (including "the infamous bunker with stairs leading down" into it), it's an "absolute blast to play", making it "worth the effort" – and "worth every dime" of the "boocoo bucks" you'll pay.
