"Ski with ease" right out of the hotel and onto the lift at this "wonderful" year-round Squaw Valley resort with "plenty to do" (including "hiking and biking in summer"); the "limited" dining "passes muster" (though more restaurants are a "short shuttle ride away") and the newly renovated rooms have "fabulous views", but it's "more about the outside than the inside" insist those who'll "be back next year."

Since it's now "elegant, sleek and intimate", "it's hard to believe" this resort "was once just an old ski motel", but its "slope-side" location "right across from the lift ticket counter" "has always been the best"; there's a "superb" restaurant and bar downstairs, "world-class dining and skiing just out your front door" and above-par service as well, but some quibblers call the "unusual" rooms "small" or a bit "too modern."

"Sun"-seeking Sierrans say there's "no better place for a hamburger with a view" than this "summer" standby in Tahoe with a "stunning" lakeside location; like the "dated" decor, the "average, high-priced" Californian menu just "doesn't seem to change" and the service is "iffy", but "no one cares", especially during "happy hour" on the deck, or weekend nights when a band strikes up in the bar; N.B. dinner-only in the off-season.

"With the Lake as its backdrop", this surf 'n' turfer is "great any time of year" to "end a day in Tahoe", be it to "watch the snow fall" by the fireplace in winter or "arrive by boat" in the summer and "sit on the deck at sunset"; the food is "satisfying but not stellar" and "service can be spotty", but for many it's the "most fun place to dine on the West Shore."

Chef Douglas Dale creates "innovative" Californian cuisine "with an Asian influence" (including "wonderful fish options") at this "must-stop on any trip to Tahoe", where dishes "beautifully presented" on "handmade pottery" are matched by what many consider "the best wine list on the Lake"; the staff is "friendly and knowledgeable", the ambiance is "dressy" and, yes, it's "expensive", but it's good to "reward yourself after a hard day of skiing"; N.B. closed Tuesdays from September–June.
