Five miles from Downtown, these Ballard water locks are a "fascinating" place to "spend an afternoon or have a picnic", "spreading a blanket" and "watching science trick Mother Nature" by lifting "boats of all sizes" between Puget Sound and the Lake Washington Ship Canal; the most compelling time to visit is June–November, when adult "salmon are running" like the "bulls in Pamplona", swimming up a 21-step ladder to head back to their spawning grounds.

"Wannabe rock stars and serious fans" get their groove on at this "detail-oriented" Seattle Center tribute to American popular music, including jazz, rock and blues; a high-tech Sound Lab where visitors can let loose on musical instruments is the top draw, but there are also "excellent" exhibits and "tons of memorabilia"; the only discordant note: some find Frank Gehry's building a "psychedelic" "masterpiece", while others opine it's just plain "ugly."

"See the city from a different vantage point" "high above the streets" on this "cute" "holdover" from the 1962 World's Fair that transports riders on a "quiet", "zippy trip" between the Space Needle and Downtown, zooming right through the Frank Gehry–designed Experience Music Project; nevertheless, seen-it-alls say the one-mile, two-minute jaunt is a "short ride to nowhere" and claim it's "nothing to get excited about."

"If air travel has lost its romance, get it back" at this museum near King County Airport, where a "glorious glass-walled" gallery houses a collection of "modern and vintage aircraft" ranked by some as "on a par with the Smithsonian's"; it's so "cool" you'll want to "plan several hours" to visit Boeing's original 1909 plant, "tour a Concorde", "sit in a couple of cockpits" or try one of the "fun flight simulators"; N.B. free from 5–9 PM on the first Thursday of each month.

Home to the Mariners since 1999, this "sparkling", "state-of-the-art" stadium just south of Downtown boasts a "brilliant design", "wonderful city views" and a Puget Sound backdrop; some consider it the "most fan-friendly ballpark in the country" thanks to "a wide selection of delicious food" and drink, "bathrooms everywhere" and "excellent sight lines" – there's "not a bad seat in the house"; P.S. "best of all", the "sliding roof guarantees" "no rainouts."

"What's a trip to Seattle without a visit" to this "leftover from the 1962 World's Fair"? – now a local "landmark", it affords "jaw-dropping vistas" (on "clear days") of both the city and the "Washington peaks in the distance" from its observation deck as well as a "pricey" rotating restaurant, located some 500 feet off the ground; if some wallet-watchers feel it's an "overpriced" "tourist trap", the majority maintains it's a "must-see" attraction.

"If I were an animal, this is where I'd want to live" say those impressed by the "top-notch", "realistic habitats" at this "gem of a zoo" about a mile from Downtown; the "nicely laid-out" property is expansive, and thus "never feels crowded" – just "bring your walking shoes" to track down all the sights, including the enclosure "where butterflies flit around" or "Hansa the elephant, who's a delight to watch"; in addition, there are events like "decently priced concerts in summer."
