The night porter had already written down the number of room on the key card (a third floor room with a window to the street) and was just about to hand me the key, when a receptionist/manager came to the desk and changed the room to a second floor room with a window to a narrow and very dark opening within the 8-storey building, resulting in the room having no natural light at all! It was just outrageous that they switched the room right in front of my eyes. I'm happy I only stayed for two nights and will tell all my friends to avoid this hotel! read more

I liked the Art Deco design of the common areasof the hotel. I loved the spiral staircase which added a lot of character to the Lobby. We spent three nights and were pleased with the very clean room and bathroom.We liked the large plasma TV in the room and thenice bathroom and bed linens. I liked the Astoria.

The hotel was very sleek and clean in some parts, but other areas needed maintenance. We found mould on the ceiling of our room and some of the tiles around the bath fixtures were broken off. As a young couple who weren't dressed to the nines (we were coming back from the beach), we were suspected of trying to break into the hotel by one member of staff, which I thought was in rather bad taste. The room we received had two twins pushed together rather than a double bed, which made it hard to sleep on. However, most of the staff were extremely amiable and took care of us beautifully. read more
