The Carleton was a comfortable, attractive place to stay, nicely situated in Oak Park, which is a nice little village of a place. The hotel is conveniently near the train into Chicago and has lively restaurants and shopping around it. Staff was very nice. I would stay there again.

The room we finally wound up in was very nice and clean.
The first initial room we were to get was clean but not worth the price reminded me of a pay by the day room.
The hotel personnel we dealt with were pleasant, and when our pluming in the first room was not working the upgraded to the main hotel rooms at the same price as well as gave us a 2 bed room instead of 1 and a roll away for the same price as well. But as stated above the first room we received was clean but like ones you would rent by the day old and outdated I feel the price was to much for it. We didn't have the opportunity to use the restaurant or pool we were up there because our daughter was to have surgery the next day early. read more

''Old world'' Charm.
The 2 elevators were slow and small.
We absolutely loved this hotel! It is charming and has a unique "old world" feel. The staff was accommodating and kind, parking was more than adequate (free!) and very close by. The neighborhood, especially to the north is very nice and it is only one block from the 'L' We bought a 3 day pass and road the Subway everywhere. A true gem of a hotel.

Historic hotel in good location.
Don't stay in the motor inn.
The Carleton of oak park is actually two hotels. One is the main hotel and the other consists of what appears to be a 1940s or 50s motor inn situated separately from the main hotel. I stayed at the motor inn. The motor inn retains all the charm of the era it was created in, and that is the downside. I expected to see those little stainless steel airstreams trailers parked nearby. Anyway, it is Spartan in amenities and the decor is dated. The room I had was one main room with a separate kitchen and bath. The wall paper was separating in some areas (noticeable), and the tile in the bath could have used updating. So get used to a night or so without checking emails! Advice? Shop around or spend the extra coin and stay at the main hotel. Too bad they were full when I was there, or I would have stayed there, too. read more

It was upscale but not stuffy.
The vents were extremely dirty and I woke up with allergies.
The hotel is beautiful. Not only is it well-staffed but it's also very romantic.

The room was large and comfortable.
The so-called free Wi ¿ Fi has such a weak signal that it was unusable
Comfortable surroundings with a large room. Free parking is a big plus. Not very convenient for business in the city, but the rate is much less and it is only a block from the el. The downside, and to me it is a major downside, was that the wi-fi signal was too weak to allow effective access to the web. I work from my laptop while traveling and need to access my firm's network. This was not possible for the two days that I stayed there and this will eliminate the Carleton from my future business travel plans. This is unfortunate, because it otherwise is a pleasant and attractive hotel. read more
