The bartender was good.
Small rooms, asked for $30.00/night to provide a king sized bed, no hot water for shower 1 morning, room heat did not work.
Never again would I stay there. It was not a 4 star hotel. Old and beat up.

Location
Sheets smelled, water pressure was low, shower was old.
The hotel appears very nice on the outside, but once you get to the rooms, they are outdated.

Great staff.
Unclean and in disrepair.
I was upgraded to a room with a king bed at my expense. First the heat did not work and the CD player did not work. The hot water in the room was not hot in the morning. There were dead bugs behind the drapes. Towels and supplies were not replenished on daily basis. This is not a 4 star hotel.

Parking cost was very high.
Trash was in my room and the sheets looked to be unchanged, and the fact that you can go to a Holiday Inn and have free water in the room instead of a charge of five dollars for a bottle is very funny to me, pretension is not needed, and this assures me never to go to this type hotel again.

I loved the building and service. It was in the best location!
No free wi-fi, no fridge or microwave.
Gorgeous hotel right beside The Alamo. Lovely service, lovely staff, lovely room! Timely room service and Aveda bath products were among the many amenities! Across the street from The Historic Alamo. A block away from the river center mall and river walk make this hotel a first choice destination!

The hotel was beautiful and centrally located.
We asked for a menu, waited about 10 minutes, asked a second person for the menu, received it but never had anyone take an order.
Poor service in the hotel bar. Took about 20 minutes and 2 requests to receive a menu. Never had anyone come to take our order. Received a breakfast complimentary for the poor service. Upon leaving the next morning we discovered the valet service had lost the keys to our vehicle. The valet service was over 28.00 per day. We were refunded the room upgrade of 23.00 per day for the jacuzzi room. The hotel was beautiful, beds were comfortable but I won't be back due to the poor service we received. I felt the valet fee and upgrade fee should have both been credited back to my bank account. read more

True historic hotel located right by the Alamo.
No attention to detail.
I've traveled to hotels listed as four star in San Antonio several times. I am rarely disappointed. With the Emily Morgan, I do not feel the hotel is truly a four star. The building itself is beautiful, which probably makes it easier for them to slide in as a four star without really earning it. For starters, rather than having their own parking they use a public lot immediately adjacent to the hotel. If you park your own car it's $10 per day. If you let the valet park the car, it's $20 for the same spot. The doormen were frequently not at the door. When they were, opening the door was all they did. There was no bellhop service. There was a concierge, but I never saw him in the lobby. I asked the friendly front desk staff questions a couple of times that they relayed to the concierge over the phone and got answers for. There were a number of places where unsupervised painters and stopped painting doorways before reaching the bottom, which was pretty glaring in what was supposed to be an upscale hotel. There was no service area and hotel cleaning staff would get in the elevator with you with a full cart and in at least one occasion actually filled up an elevator and left guests waiting in the lobby. In a too common trend among four star hotels, everything you want at the hotel is an add on. If you go to what we'd typically call a two or two and a half star facility you're almost certain to get free parking, free high speed internet, and free breakfast. At the Emily Morgan parking was $20, internet was $10 per day, and breakfast for four would run you around $60. For my family, that would double the cost of the hotel room. The Emily Morgan is very pretty, but I do not look forward to staying there in the future. For the same money there are a number of hotels that have better service, more attention to detail, and that help me leave feeling good about my stay. read more
