Description of Genesee Grande Hotel
Syracuse University Hotel - 3 blocks from it Yet only 10 blocks from heart of downtown What are we like -- 4 Star Luxury - Independent - Classic . . . Classic columns - wrought iron lamp posts frame entrance then a screen of columns march through our lobby - while a calm flows from the marble Koi pond and brass fountain. And that is just the lobby. The only independent 4 star hotel dedicated to creating a traditional- classic Syracuse experience with the grace and style of the 1940s infused with a contemporary sensibility. The heyday of the 40s redesigned for today -- deep - overstuffed luxury. A large Tiffany stained glass scene from the 1920s accents our Tuscan Meeting Room. And our service fits our style - unlike so many big brands - we believe in pampering our guests. So we do. You will likely find 2 Doormen - 3 Front Desk Associates and added House Keepers - even a Quality Assurance inspector who looks after all the details. If you need a ride to the airport - maybe you have an appointment at the University or just want to check out the local mall - Chris-our Bell Captain for over 15 years - will make it happen. We have a shuttle van and a car to take you where you need to go but dont be surprised if people wave at you - everyone knows Chris. Our 159 rooms and suites in Syracuse are designed with the flare and heyday of 1940s exuberance - when Syracuse was a booming industrial city and each guest rooms is framed by todays own luxury -- a replica 1940s phone to call the Front Desk - a large overstuffed French style sofa set next to beaded lampshade. Suites are apartment size with foyers and many come with full kitchens. They can be combined to create large apartments for Long Term Stays in Syracuse Luxury - also known as Luxury Extended Stay in Syracuse. Baths have granite countertops - silver accents - botanical Aveda products. Beds are pillow-top. Linens are 300 thread count Egyptian. read more

The room was a good size and very comfortable.
Room had plumbing problems but they moved us right away.

I thought this hotel was very charming. It was clean and the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We had plumbing problems and they had someone to look at them within 5 minutes. Still had problems and we were moved immediately to another room. We enjoyed our stay.

The lobby.
The size of the room and the view was terrible, there was a brick wall outside our window.

I thought that it was going to be a great place to stay but when we arrived our room was small and and smelled like smoke. I told them at the desk so they moved us to the room next door, what is that going to do? Our room had a view of a brick wall and fence, not at all what we were expecting, not worth the money.

Great location.
AC was non-existent in our room.

Overall, I loved the hotel. The room was renovated except for the Heating / cooling unit. It was an antique & it would not cool down. The TV was very tiny, like a small computer monitor hanging on the wall.

Very accomodating staff, beautiful lobby, lovely lounge.
It is a diamond in the rough. The area was almost scary so we stayed in to eat..

I would recommend this hotel to others. Gorgeous surroundings, friendly, helpful staff, very clean, easy to find.

Beautifully decorated/restored old building.
Old television, and there was no control of air conditioning.

Beautiful building, very friendly people, updated decorations/fixtures - would have liked to have seen flat-screen TV, better pillows, and ability to control the heat/AC.

Slow staff, small rooms, to expense!

Hotel looks very nice in lobby area! Rooms are okay and are very small. Staff lobby and restaurant are very slow, but the food is very nice. I will consider this hotel to be a 3 star hotel. I don't believe worth the 3 1/2 star, too expensive for what they offer.

Great location - walking (15 - 20 minutes) distance to downtown.
Our 1st floor room was only feet from the parking lot.

Great location near downtown. 10 to 15 block walk from Amory Square with lots of great restaurants and clubs.
