Handlery Union Square Hotel

This is a 1 to 1-1/2 star hotel with friendly staff in a great location.

The room was horrible, the old elevator cable continuously banged, like a loud knocking, against the wall of my room. It finally subsided around 3:00 or 4:00 am for a few hours.

When we first checked in our room did not have a rollaway in it as we had requested beforehand. They brought it to our room immediately, but the room was not large enough to open it and have a safe exit out. We were moved to a new room with no problems whatsoever. We had no problems from then on. I was with 2 friends.

This hotel is great for a single night stay because of its location but double check your room for cleanliness. There was a sticky substance on the desk in our Club Double Queen room that guest services probably deemed too time consuming to clean up. I covered it up with the hotel services folder.

The hotel was in a good location -- right in downtown SF near the cable cars. It was clean, the staff were nice.

The hotel is obviously may years old, but the rooms and public areas have been modernized and are more than adequate. The location is great and I will be bringing my family back for another visit.

Neither of us smoke, nor do any member of our family. Nonetheless, the odor of smoke was obvious in our vehicle when we recovered it, and in addition, we found a cigarette butt on the floor of our back seat. That was unacceptable.
