The Holiday Inn San Clemente Downtown Resort overlooks the blue Pacific Ocean in the center of the lovely beach community of San Clemente, 5 minutes from world famous Trestles surfing beach. It's halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, a serene world away from the faster urban pace of its larger neighbors. San Clemente, next door to famous Laguna Beach, is a town made for walking and sits in the center of town, just steps away from restaurants, cafes, unique shops and a beautiful white sand beach. Legoland, Disneyland and Knott?s Berry Farm are a 40 minute drive. San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Universal Studios, Hollywood, Temecula Wine Country/Vinyards and Tijuana/Mexico are all about an hour drive. Easy on and off freeway access.
Ocean view. More like some distant water through buildings.

The spa was murky and scary looking, so I did not try it. Pool was nice, simple, and if you closed your eyes you could pretend that the freeway noise 100 ft away was the sound of the ocean. Some hallway walls were of an odd texture, making the place seem very dated, but there was new paint everywhere like they are really making an effort to make it nice. We were there for a one night stay, and after we checked in we learned that the restaurant was closed. We ordered take out from a nearby restaurant and I only had a few bites and I am a guy who eats anything. read more

Clean room.
Interstate 5 was right outside my window. Impossible to sleep!

While I'm sure some of the rooms are quiet, the proximity to a major freeway makes this hotel unacceptable. Should not be rated 3 stars for this reason alone!
