Good walking distance to shops, local attractions and eating establishments.
The rooms had been redone recently but you could tell they didn't give it a lot of effort; bad molding, loose doors, etc.
The hotel is right on the border of what appeared to be the more downtown/upscale area and the not so upscale area; so you definitely get an interesting mix of people walking the area. The rooms and interior appeared to have been refurbished recently and were good for an overnight stay. All of the staff were extremely friendly.

The price.
Room maintenance was lacking.
The restaurant was a cafe at best; the room wasn't kept clean - the ice bucket was dirty/nasty when I arrived, and I wasn't able to get it cleaned by the room attendant for 3 days - finally had to go to the front desk - who couldn't help me because it was after 5pm!

Very friendly and helpful staff, large room, located within walking distance to downtown.
Had to pay for parking without elevator from top level, restaurant area small.

The location and comfort of the rooms.
Limited public space.
Very convenient for downtown, the airport and most of the attractions in San Diego. A pleasant hotel to stay in, especially for the price.

Hard to get to off the highway.
Great hotel. Amazing people. Would come here again. Good location, just tricky to get off the highway and get to.

Free wireless internet.
Far from Convention Center; operator failed to make wake-up call.
This is a basic 80's designed hotel at the far edge of the downtown area with minimal services. Front desk staff appeared friendly, but missed an important 6AM wake-up call. Wireless internet is free, but there is a charge for [non-valet] parking, but free on street parking is readily available on adjacent streets.

Good price for the value, friendly, 20 min walk to downtown.
Airport shuffle is unacceptable, not enough space.
Hotel is good for the price. The restaurant is so-so. Staffs are helpful and friendly. Provide free transportation to the Zoo, airport. Provide free internet service in the room with your own portable computer, Free newspaper, free printing of the airline boarding pass. I would come back to this hotel on my next stay.

My overall trip was convenient and easy.
I didn't like the limited parking spaces.
The Holiday Inn was well kept up but the limited parking spaces were small.
