Hotel Rex

Good location. Close to train station and about 20-30 minute walk to most attractions, very close to buses and Metro. Desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The keys are ridiculously large and heavy, but you are supposed to leave them at the front desk. The room was really big but the bathroom needed updating. We had a slow drain in the shower and they fixed it that day. There was a computer in our room that we could use for internet for a small fee. Breakfast was included for us, but I don't think that was the case for all guests. Their traditional Italian breakfast was good; pastries, yogurt, cappuccino, and juice. They tried to make a more American choice too, eggs and sausage, but the eggs weren’t very good and the sausage I think was hot dogs. So stick to the Italian food in Italy! Seems like a good family hotel, they even had a room for kids with toys, and they have movies to bring to your room and board games. I would stay there again. read more

The location of the Rex was great , the staff was freindly , and we enjoyed the breakfast.

Close to train station, extremely clean rooms and lobby area, best breakfast we had during our trip to Italy. Good walking distance to restaurants, etc. Staff was a little unfriendly, especially night staff, but it didn't deter from the stay.

Hotel Rex is located only a short walk from the main Train Termini in Rome. The staff communicated well in English and was helpful with luggage, sites, and information. The room was nice and larger than other hotel rooms in Italy. The bathroom was clean with a shower of reasonable size. The safe was nice for keeping valuables while sightseeing. Breakfast was included with our stay and that made for a pleasant surprise. The view from our window was nothing to see, but then again, there's all of Rome to go out and see. I would definitely stay here again if I was to visit Rome again. Of the three hotels in Italy I stayed, the Hotel Rex was easily the best. read more

Very good overall experience. Staff is very attentive and they all speak fluent English and know Rome (including public transportation) very well. The room and bath was larger than I expected and the furniture was better than I expected for the price. Location is also an asset, about 3-4 blocks from Termini (bus, metro, and train terminal). Breakfast included cereal, bakeries, sweet and salty pies, yoghurt, bread, fruit, bacon, good coffee, eggs, etc. Room was clean. Carpeting in room and public areas needs an update. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel: 1) The staff was very friendly and helpful, 2) Breakfast was excellent, 3) Rooms were very clean, 4) We were able to borrow a Rome book to use, 5) Quiet street, 6) AC was appreciated. On the negative side, I thought the room was small but apparently this is normal for Rome.

The Hotel Rex is a few blocks away from the central train station. It is also just a short walk to the underground Metro and bus stops. The hotel is also within walking distance to the Coliseum, Forum, and Trevi Fountain. There's a nearby bank, supermarket, and places to eat. The hotel itself is modest, but the rooms are clean and the staff at the front reception are very helpful. read more

We find the Rex hotel in a good part of town and were greeted by a friendly front desk receptionist. Normally, this would mean we will have a good experience. The hotel common areas were nice and clean but the room was very outdated (not just style, but also the age of the carpet and linens). Like at many European hotels were asked to leave our room key with the reception. We did so reluctantly and upon return told a complete stranger (the reception staff had changed shifts) our room number. He gave us the key with no questions. A criminal could also walk in look at the available keys and request any room key. Nothing happened but we should not have to conform to their poor security when it is our personal belongings or personal safety at risk. The hotel gets a 3 star (for common areas and great staff) until you enter the room at which point it gets a 1 star. Infect we stayed at a 1 star in Capri which felt like a 3+ star. read more

Good for the price, helpful staff, and convenient.

The hotel is nice and very close to the terminal. If you get a large room with a street view you'll be very happy and feel like you're in a great 3/4 star hotel.
