Other points of interest include Redwood National Park located 35 miles north, Blue Lake Casino 5 miles east, Arcata Airport 5 miles north, Humboldt State University 4 miles south, Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary 4 miles south. Several restaurants and shops are located only 1/2 mile away. The Howard Johnson Express Inn Arcata has received the Quality Excellence Award, Presidents Award and is recognized by Howard Johnson International as a Gold Medal Award Property. It had a bed and TV.
Parking, smell, outside noise and vagrants.

Poor check in, poor rooms, too much money for not much. Continental breakfast was OK. People around the community and hotel were not pleasant.

The hotel seemed very quiet and tidy.
Some of the staff would sit on a couch near the desk and stare at customers while speaking Spanish to each other.

Was a great hotel for the price we got. Always clean, served a small breakfast daily, and had a nice pool and fairly friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to this area.

The rooms were spacious and well equipped.
Need more choices for breakfast.

I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the rooms were, the cleaning staff was very friendly and courteous! I didn't get to take advantage of the entire extra's (pool, workout room etc.) but will certainly make Howard Johnson's my new place to stay whenever possible.
