Architecture, location, and superb customer service.
Newly redecorated but left some old fixtures and features that look shabby. Not as many room amenities for a Regency.

Great location for watching bats on Congress Ave --- ask for a room facing the bat bridge!
interior balconies overlooking the atrium
A great hotel --- recently renovated, clean, but retaining the old-school Texas styling from 1970s architecture. (Even has a glass elevator in the lobby.) Fully deserves 4 stars. Great location for cruising/shoppping/dining on South Congress and watching bats fly from Congress ave. Ask for a room overlooking the Congress avenue bridge. From at least the 4th floor, this hotel is great for taking in the scene of the #1 tourist attraction to Austin, the Congress Avenue bat bridge, where bats fly at dusk from underneath the bridge. read more

The front desk staff of the hotel were very warm and welcoming.
The large water bottle in the room that was overpriced.
I was welcomed to the hotel by an apology for the wait and a warm smile. The wait was not long, and the person changed my room from a king sized bed to two full sized beds, as we were a family a four. We dined at the SouthWest Bistro, and I would strongly not recommend eating there. The waiter forgot our two glasses of wine and we had to ask again. There was a chicken thigh bone in the quesadilla, and our waiter barely apologized; he only explained that the chicken is "pulled". With such a small quesadilla, where the bone was substantial part of it, the bone should have never made it in the appetizer. The restaurant only had 6 tables with customers, 2 wait staff and a manager working. I did not observe the manager visit any of the tables. Our 3 cups of soup, 2 appetizers, and 1 dessert took over an hour and a half, nearly 2 hours. Very slow and unattentive service. read more
