Built in 1924 and now "fully renovated", this "classy", "friendly" hotel four blocks from the state capitol still has the "feel of a different era", with its stately lobby, subdued decor and the "historic charm" of its "small" rooms; on the flip side, revelers report "you gotta love" the steaks at the Roaring Fork bistro, the convenient "corner location" close to Sixth Street nightlife and the "amazing" people-watching from the second-floor bar's wraparound deck, "perhaps Downtown's best."

Room service was excellent.
Elevators seemed very very old.

Went for ACL, enjoyed our stay there. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean/spacious room and bathroom. Only drawback - Elevator sounded and felt like it was going to break or crash.

Great location - great ambience - attentive staff
I hate that you have to valet park

I have stayed at the Stephen F. Austin on a number of occasions. The staff is very attentive but was not quite as friendly this time as in the past. I also was dissapointed that my room this time looked out over the A/C units for the entire site.

They were filming a movie.
The rooms were too small and the pool was a lap pool 3 feet wide.

Nice hotel, definitely not worth the price I payed though. The first room they put me and my mother in was a single queen size bed, but it was a king or two queen size beds. So I had to go to the front desk and upgrade to the next size room for more money.

The rooms are small yet comfortable, well appointed.
You must valet park.

This is a charming hotel located in the center of downtown Austin. The staff could not be friendlier and more attentive if they tried. My only complaint is that you are forced to valet park because of the location. Not only is the parking pricey, but it gets to be somewhat tedious to always be waiting for your car to be delivered if you have to go in and out a lot. That alone is not enough to keep me from returning though. I think it is one of the nicest downtown properties! read more

Very accommodating.
The room service food was absolutely horrible.

I loved the hotel except for the food. Way overpriced and not good at all.
