Built in 1924 and now "fully renovated", this "classy", "friendly" hotel four blocks from the state capitol still has the "feel of a different era", with its stately lobby, subdued decor and the "historic charm" of its "small" rooms; on the flip side, revelers report "you gotta love" the steaks at the Roaring Fork bistro, the convenient "corner location" close to Sixth Street nightlife and the "amazing" people-watching from the second-floor bar's wraparound deck, "perhaps Downtown's best."

Friendly place to stay.
No vending machines on the floors.

It was a great place to stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I will go back next time I am in Austin.

The location of the hotel was moments away from the Congress Bridge where bat watching at dusk is popular.

Great Austin location.
Rude desk staff, no effort to assist with additional needs (e.g. request for rollaway), no maid service first 36 hours.

Upscale lobby and public areas, nice workout facility. Rooms are small with old, stained and broken furniture. Beds only sleep 2 adults if you want to sleep really close! Not appropriate for parent traveling with older child to share a room (esp if of the opposite gender). Very poor maid service. Valet service was friendly and helpful, as was the concierge. However, front desk staff were rude, curt, and absolutely unhelpful. read more

Close to the downtown attractions.
Valet parking only maybe a little to formal for a leisure traveler.

The room was beautiful, but small, the only soda dispensers were in the room at $3.50 a can, the room itself might have been inexpensive but all the other amenities were very expensive.

Great location.
They treated us as if we were second class guest.

Very disappointed with the front desk staff's attitude, as we stood there with our daughter explaining that we needed a room with 2 beds. We were told that was only possible in an upgraded superior room for $30 more. What choice did we have? No we'll have her sleep on the floor. So we upgraded to the larger room that was not large by anyone's standards. Much smaller room & bathroom than we have found in much lower star-rated hotels or chains. The attitude was snobby. read more

Location, comfortable room and bed, clean.
Omni - rooms not very soundproof - heard people talking and baby crying.

Comfortable - good location for downtown activities, good restaurants in hotel.

Staff very friendly and accommodating.
We needed a room with double beds they didn't have this and then charged us 59. to get a Jr. suite to get a king bed and a roll away.

The rooms are very small. We needed a king bed and a roll away in one of the rooms, but to get that, we had to upgrade to a jr. suite for an extra 59. which we were not happy about. They said there were no rooms with two double beds. Since there were 3 adults, we had to upgrade. The per night charge to keep the car was a bit much we had two vehicles they charged extra for the SUV which seemed a bit much. read more
