Built in 1924 and now "fully renovated", this "classy", "friendly" hotel four blocks from the state capitol still has the "feel of a different era", with its stately lobby, subdued decor and the "historic charm" of its "small" rooms; on the flip side, revelers report "you gotta love" the steaks at the Roaring Fork bistro, the convenient "corner location" close to Sixth Street nightlife and the "amazing" people-watching from the second-floor bar's wraparound deck, "perhaps Downtown's best."

Very close to Austin 6th St and downtown attractions.
Very small rooms. No free WiFi. Expensive valet.

Very close to all of Austin's best sites. For a night or two, the hotel was fine.

The staff was very accommodating.
The Lasagna and burger we ordered in room service was terrible.

The hotel was very nice. I would stay there again.

Location was great. The meeting room was terrific.
The chair in my room was torn. Limited exercise equipment. The elliptical (or what looked like an elliptical) was broken (no sign on it).

We did not get much attention for our meeting room for food service. Everything was ready when we got there, but we had to call to get it cleaned up and for them to serve the snacks that were prearranged. I expected better.

Location.
Snooty guy at the front desk.

They gave us the worst rooms in the hotel and with only 1 queen bed in each for 2 adults. Guy at front desk was snippy about it -- They also overcharged us for parking and for mini-bar items that we did not use.

The location of the hotel was a plus.
We found crickets in each of the bathrooms.

Although conveniently located in the center of Austin, the hotel staff was not helpful in trying to accommodate our request for rooms with two double beds even though we called in advance to make the arrangements. Instead we were charged an additional $90 to bump up to a larger room with a sofa bed and a roll away. Aesthetically the room was fine, but the sofa bed was not at all comfortable. read more
