This is a beautiful hotel in the Little Tokyo section of downtown Los Angeles.
It is aging a bit, especially the shower and tub.
This used to be the New Otani hotel. It is the best choice to stay in if you need to stay in Little Tokyo. It is a bit away from the other downtown hotels and thus there is less night traffic and is quieter than the other hotels, Figueroa.

Live Jazz, nice Japanese Garden, walk to Little Tokyo.
Noisy, uncomfortable Beds, old ugly bathroom. Downtown-priced parking.
The bed are really uncomfortable to sleep in, pillows are hard. You can tell they renovated the room but stop short with the bathrooms, so the bathrooms look old and ugly, but luckily not moldy. Worst of all though, there's no sound-proofing in the room at all. My room was on the 7th floor facing the Garden side where they have the live Jazz music playing at night and it's definitely loud, which is nice if you enjoy it, but may be problematic for people who want to go to bed before 11PM. Waited in the line for 15-20 minutes to check-in at about 12:30, with 4 groups of people behind me because only one person was on duty, asked bellhop to call other staff to help and the he only said the other front desk was on lunch break. Similar situation at check-out, but luckily the questions that should have been handled by concierge were handled quickly, so only stood in line for 5-10 minutes. $30 Valet, $24 Self Parking, on par with downtown price. Internet $9.95 in-room isn't too bad compared to other hotels. Not exactly nice to see all the homeless right in front of the hotel. The hotel isn't exactly what you'd expect to find at a 4 or 3-star hotel either. read more

My bathroom had old fixtures/tile, like Tulsa airport circa 1963. Not as nice as rest of my room.
Rooms nicely decorated, but the bathrooms are still waiting. Front desk staff was prompt and friendly. The gardens were nice; not quite as nice as they appeared in the pictures, but still green and fresh.

The garden was very beautiful, the rooms were spacious, nicely decorated and the staff was nice.
I really liked this hotel. The garden was beautiful and a wonderful place to relax and read or just take in the beauty of it. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Excellent service. Very convenient to Union Station (that is how we arrived and got around on the subway). Easy walk to eateries in Little Toyko.
Bathroom was not as luxurious as other hotels of this caliber (pink tile, no marble counters). But a small complaint. Beds were *very* firm.
