Description of Makena Beach And Golf Resort
Secluded on 1800 acres with a half-mile of pristine Beach at the foot of mt. Haleakala the makena beach and golf Resort is truly a sanctuary. The serenity can be felt From the first moment a lei of seashells is draped over Your shoulders and you are welcomed with the genuine smiles And warm attention of the staff. The entire hotel is built around an asian meditation garden with stone paths quiet corners for contemplation waterfalls and streams swarming With brilliant red and gold carp. The roof is the sky.The door of every room opens to this atrium while the Windows and lanai look out upon the ocean. Most people Settle into the immediate serenity and find themselves Sitting beside the pool or on the beach watching all The little white boats streaming to molokini. And if the Sea is calm they may hear the great humpback whales singing In the deep. Makena course - designed by robert trent jones jr. The Makena north course opened in 1993 to rave reviews. The makena course feels more like a nature walk than a Golf course with captivating mountain views of Haleakala crater and sweeping views of the blue Pacific ocean. Prince keiki club - our popular children?s program - entertains children ages 5-12 with hours of fun And the opportunity to meet friends from around the world. Activities range from sand castle building swimming Hawaiian arts and crafts treasure scavenger hunts Treasure box making and much more. "Plenty of sea turtles" share the "awesome beach" at this "quiet", "uncrowded" Makena resort with a "warm staff" that "works for those looking for total seclusion" (or a bargain, as veterans insist it's a "great value"); but critics find the property "a little long in the tooth", with "simple" rooms that "could use updating"; N.B. the South golf course is closed for renovations.

Lots of amenities, beautiful views, but not a lot of people.
Bath rooms need updating, better food, and the tennis prices was way too high.

Perfect for wanting to be secluded, but still close enough to shop and excursions. Older hotel but still nice. Great gift shop.

Location is unbeatable - best beach and remote.
Only one restaurant was open & at
evenings only.

Maui Prince is a diamond ready to be polished. The location is superb, lush grounds, big rooms, great views but I am assuming that they are in financial challenges as their services were minimal and the room furnishings were tired. Once new management takes over this will be by far the best resort south Maui has to offer.

Beautiful hotel and grounds. The staff is VERY nice! All rooms offer an ocean view which is perfect!
Roaches in the room.

A definite decline in quality from last year - the roaches! Also, they started charging a resort fee that had not been in place when we visited there last year. Another unexpected expense that was irritating.

Great beachfront property.
Rooms need some work.

The Maui Prince is an ideal hotel if you want to be away from the crowds. The hotel is located on a great beach. The staff are friendly. Rooms are dated and need some work.

The staff was extremely friendly. I was impressed with how nice everyone was.
The hotel is stuck in 1970's. Needs a refurbishment badly.

I would recommend this to anyone. The hotel price was great for the price. It is just run down. The lobby is great, the beach is amazing. I spent a week at all the different beaches in Maui and this was one of the best areas. The staff was extremely amazing I even got an Ocean view Prime upgrade for free! I would stay there again, just the furniture was so old, but it was very spacious. read more

The staff at this hotel was excellent!
The room was clean but I felt that the bathroom could be upgraded.

We were concerned about the service we would receive due to the bankruptcy proceedings and anticipated closure of the hotel but we were very surprised at how friendly the staff was and how they remained committed to their jobs in spite of the possibility of not having their jobs in a couple of weeks. We would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends if it remains open. read more
