Location was okay.
Old, not the cleanest.
Good location, hotel needs to be refurbished, pool looked okay but the hot tub was not in use which I was looking forward to using.

Free shuttle to Duke University, and a friendly staff.
One unhappy shuttle van driver.
A good hotel with excellent restaurants and bar area. Very pretty lobby and entrance, spotlessly clean. Nice, well-appointed rooms but the bed in our room had reached the end of its useful life.

Lobby, bar and dinning area.
Water heater system was okay, no microwave or refrigerator in the room which we expected in a hotel which looked so elegant when we stepped in.

The local shuttle service was a nice touch.
The sleep study clinic shares a wing of every floor, feels institutional at times.
The Pros:
1. The hotel is well maintained.
2. The local shuttle is very convenient.
3. The door staff is friendly and helpful.
4. The food was surprisingly good.
The Cons:
1. The front desk staff was a little shady - they told me the last king room was near an ice machine and that if that was a problem they could put me in a different room. I went forward with the king, after I checked in they did something very similar to my friend, seemingly trying to deter both of us from taking king rooms. (For the record, couldn't hear the ice machine).
2. A sleep clinic shares a wing of every floor, which gives a slight institutional feel.
Side note:
I also noticed, on both days, people arguing with the front desk management about unmet expectations, though it did seem that the management was in the right and the guests were unreasonable. read more
