Hotel Guest Reviews of the Sandman Hotel Calgary City Centre

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Excellent location, the staff were very friendly.
Only one computer in the business room and it stank of cigarette smoke.

This was a great hotel for the price I got. If you're going to be picky, the color scheme was a little too drab. But for my purposes, it was great. The location is ideal, right in the middle of downtown and right across from the C-train station (the train is free to ride in the downtown area) There was a McDonald's, a Subway, and a couple of convenience stores right across the street. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. The only thing that stood out like a sore thumb was the lone computer in the business room available for Internet access. I had to wait for my turn each time I went there and the room reeked of the stench of stale tobacco as well. It would be nice if there were more computers added to the room and if it were changed to a no-smoking zone. ...read more

Restaurant.
The location, room smells, beds and bedding are old.

This hotel does not meet a 3 star rating. The rooms are old, smells, beds are old. Falling apart.

Nothing
Unclean and poor quality.

This hotel was very poor quality. The lighting was very dark in both the room and the bathroom, there were stains on the carpet, the furniture and the walls, the bed had the worst mattress that I have ever slept on being extremely hard and uncomfortable, the blanket was paper thin, the heater made very loud noises, the neighborhood was very dicey, there was no closet, but an ironing board hanging to the bare wall in the middle of the room, the door was cardboard thin and the service was terrible. I had paid for two nights, but the room and hotel was so atrocious, I checked after sleeping one night and checked into a different hotel, even though that means that I ended up paying for two hotels. ...read more

Convenient location for my needs on this trip.
N/A

The Sandman Hotel is conveniently located in downtown with plenty of rooms. It looks like the company has not spent much on the maintenance of the property, generally dowdy and sub standard state of repair. The facilities that one would expect in an inexpensive business hotel like wireless internet access are not available. My card key had to reprogrammed 3 times on the same day. Staff was generally helpful, particularly the younger staff members, however the older ones tended to be rather surly. When I checked out they could not print an accurate bill, the one they printed had the room tariff included because the system was backing-up. Four days later, they still have not faxed me my bill as promised. That said, it met the basic requirements of a business traveler, clean sheets, clean towels, clean bathrooms. ...read more

The manager let us check out and refunded our money for the unused portion of our stay.
The rooms were small, the neighborhood was bad, the beds were uncomfortable and had nails sticking out of the frame and the bed coverings were poor quality.

This hotel had a nice lobby and a good restaurant. But the rooms have not been renovated in a long time. The linens were substandard. It was not a room I would stay in.

Good service, friendliness, professinalism, accessiblity to transport and city.
Lack of manpower to help with luggage transfer to room.

It's an excellent place to stay, good location, helpful staff, with restaurants inside and very close outside the hotel.Accessiblity to public transport and very close to city.

Bathroom was immaculate.
Downtown area is not where I would feel comfortable walking around at night.

Excellent stay for the price. Parking was an additional $6.50 per night (Cdn)

Quality of room was one-star

This room is highly over-ranked, three stars it is not! The room is tiny, the bathroom even smaller than one-star motels and some things did not work, I would not recommend the Sandman Downtown unfortunately.
